Your avatar image is the image that appears next to your name when posting in the forum.
You can add your own image to use as an avatar. Because modern digital photographs can be very large it is best to try to crop or resize your picture before uploading. This may not be necessary, but it may also help avoid problems later.
Here is a simple step by step guide to uploading a new avatar image.
| Firstly login to the site. If you don't have an account yet you will need to register (quick and free) - you can login from most pages on the site, if you can't find where to login go to the home page and look in the left hand column. |
Click Forum in the top menu. |
| Towards the top of the forum click the link My Profile. |
| In you profile page click My Avatar in the left hand column. |
| Under Submit a new avatar for upload, click browse. |
| The browse dialogue box will open, this may look different depending on the type of computer and software you are using. When you have selected the image you want to use click open. |
| Under Submit a new avatar for upload, click Upload. |
| Now please be patient because your image must upload to the website, this can take as long as a minute. Don't click anything or navigate away form the page - wait until you see the message Your avatar has been uploaded. |

Problems?
If you get an error message, or nothing happens at all even after a minute of uploading, then the problem is almost certainly due to using a large image. I highly recommend using an image of under 1 MB. I'm working on a document to explain in more detail how to resize images on your computer, in the mean time this web page may be useful..http://www.shrinkpictures.com/.
