and here's another children related Deerhound book - The Hound's Tale by Neil C MacArthur

Synopsis
Beautifully illustrated story of Deerhound Luath. Set in Rob Roy country.

Why would a deerhound and a tree sparrow join forces in the land of Rob Roy MacGregor? What is the ancient and troubling secret trapped in a mountainside? What is the mystery of the slow red squirrels of Balquhidder?

Neil Campbell MacArthur’s robust illustrations and strongly traditional storytelling crackle like a good campfire. The eccentric, endearing relationship of hound and bird is countered by a darker strain of clansmen and great pipers. The Hound’s Tale is an adventure of rare charm for the young at heart of all ages.

Dear Hound is just wonderful - I was given a copy by a very kind friend and kept it for bedtime reading on the way home from Crufts. It's just long enough for an adult's bedtime book, but should last a few days if read to a small child. And the illustrations are excellent - you can tell the author has Deerhounds herself. Look out for the Serpentine Grovel.

Thanks for bringing Dear Hound to everyone's attention. Millie the deerhound has just bought it for my other half's little girl's birthday (tomorrow). She will love it. The "ears" illustration titled "total freakout" is Millie to a T!!

In the July edition of 'Dogs Today' there is an article at the back by Jill Murphy about her book 'Dear hound' and she talks about her 2 deerhounds Grace and Scout

On the same topic (‘ish’). I’ve started reading The Warlord Chronicles, a series about the Arthurian legends, by Bernard Cornwall (of ‘Sharpe’ fame). Deerhounds turn up quite regularly, Guinevere has a brace. They also feature in another series about Alfred The Great.

And further to literary Deerhounds, there's another in the second (I think) volume of Dorothy Dunnet's Lymond Chronicles. Haven't got the book to hand, so I can't give you the title, but the whole series is well worth reading.

I bought the Jill Murray book for my 4 year old nephew. He loves Deerhounds, especially Bo. I fear my nephew will be drowned in Deerhound parafanalia (sp)
It should be noted that one of his first words was Deerhoond He says it with a German accent Not sure how proud his parents were but I was thrilled
No I'm not German, just the way he says it
