TOPIC: Pack up Small Dog

That is a full size deerhound tucked into the lurcher's tiny bed!

Here it is again (taken a couple of days later, so its like a spot the difference) just to show it really was a deerhound - you can see the lurcher has reclaimed its bed!

Nice one! My first Deerhound used to squeeze into our collie's bed, which was a (very heavily padded and blanketed) baker's tray, such as can be seen in delivery vans. Thane used to twirl himself round on his toes, somewhat in the manner of a person winding spaghetti round a fork, then collapse ready folded, with a smug look on his face. Visiting Deerhounds tried to emulate this, but none could ever work out how it was done.

I was considering buying one of Costco's larger dog beds for Tavish's bedroom bed just yesterday - has anyone tried them? Do the dogs like them and do they last a reasonable time?

Re:Pack up Small Dog 3 years, 5 months ago #2916

We are due some new beds and were looking at those, they feel quite tough.

We love Costco!

I bought mine a canvas bed that has a thick quilt inside, its about 4ft square, comfortable and cost quite a bit at the time. He's hardly ever used it and would rather lie on a sofa or the carpet. I'm not sure why he doesn't like it, thought maybe it could be the canvas so tried putting a quilt cover on it but still he didn't use it.

I am not sure where your nearst Costco is, but ours is Watford and they haven't got any in at the moment that seem big enough for Murphy. I feel sorry for the big fellow, but whenever I buy him a nice bed, the terrier chews them to bits. The last Costco bed was lovely, last well and is more luxurious than others!

That is so funny. They do love to curl up into tight spaces. The last dog beds I got were from large cushion ones. They are 1m x 1.5m and about 200 thick. They have a tough cotton/canvas cover and they are fully washable. In Hobart large dog beds are very expensive but these were half the price and just the right size for the hounds.

Here's Mac in a particularly tight spot. Normally one of the collies fills this space, but Mac decided it was his turn next to the Aga !

We got a couple for Elise's mum when we were last in and tried one out at home...

We also tried to shove it in the washer, but it wouldn't fit. Bit of a problem for us as we wash the beds quite often.

Had the same problem, ok in the summer, but they do smell easily of wet dog. I was taking Murphys to the launderette, but at nearly a tenner to wash and dry I could have bought a new one! plus the car smelt then too!

Was thinking of another bed I bought it didnt have a zipper, the Costco ones usualy do, you only have to wash the cover.

Re:Pack up Small Dog 3 years, 5 months ago #3060

It does zip off and it is waterproof, so the bed inner should be safe. However - when we are washing the covers the dog always goes and throws up on the inner! They should come with two covers!
