On the news today was a lady who paid to have 5 puppies cloned from the skin of her dog who had died and she now has 5 identical copies of her dog. I can understand why she has done it but I don't think I could, as I believe there is only one Ben (My Hound).

Would anyone on here have there beloved dog cloned?

There will only be ever one Murphy, if you met him, you'd know why!

So no, not for me thanks, my dog is irreplacable!

A dog is made up of both it's genetics and it's environment, and with a clone you are only getting one half of the picture. You may end up with a dog that looks like your old one but there's no guarantee it will have the same temprament, which is surely the bit you would be trying to replicate. I would rather know that my dog lived on through future generations than to have a clone.

No I don't think I could. I feel I would get too upset thinking of the dog that was cloned plus be scared of disappointment if things didn't turn out how I was expecting.

BUT if it was purely to continue a genetic line that was at the end and there were no emotional ties, and of course it was exceptional, then maybe....or if the breed was nearing extinction...

This is a very difficult question to answer when you have recently lost a beloved pet. Emotion can cloud your judgement so easily. Your mind tells you that the animals personality would not be the same even though it would be an identical copy, but the heart doesn't care and sees what it wants. If I was truly faced with the choice of getting back a carbon copy of a lost pet, I can't honestly say that I would say no.

I saw thaat on the telly and in the paper. She got five pups and it was very dear. I have considered it, as a far fetched idea for one of mine that is wonderful, but I don't think I'd really do it. There are a few drawbacks besides the cost. While it would look exactly the same, there would be little to reproduce the same varibles that produced the original, meaning personality, etc. Still it is an intriguing idea.
