TOPIC: poo question....

poo question.... 3 years ago #11333

ok so this is probably not the most serious issue....but leah hasn't had a poo since Sunday morning

she is eating normally, and drinking, weeing as normal....just no number 2's.....

she usually goes at least once a day.

I haven't changed her food, though she hasn't had tripe since Sun as I keep forgetting to get it out of the freezer in time...

I've asked my dog-walker as I initially assumed she was doing it when out with her, but she hasn't.

She is absolutely normal in herself (well as normal as any daft sofa-queen gets ) so I'm not sure if I should be worrying yet....

I've given her sachets for breaky and tea today (they are usually stand-by food but they might make her go??)

can anyone think of anything obvious??

Has she been on raw food?sometimes they get a bit bunged up with that

Re:poo question.... 3 years ago #11341

Hi Jan - she's not eating anything different, she does eat raw but still goes regularly which is why I'm a bit concerned....guess I'm just being a bit over-protective....

Try a little liquid parafin if you are concerned always works for mine.

Vegetable oil, a tablespoon in their food used to work for my other dogs. Murphy doesn't have constipation, he usually goes about 4 times a day, 3 when we are out and always one in the garden for hubby to pick up in the morning!

If shes happy in herself - eating and drinking ok,
and theres no pain, sickness and shes not trying to strain or anything like that, then i wouldn't worry to much, just keep an eye on her.

Have you tried gently palpating her abdomen to see if you can feel any build ups which may suggest a blockage?

Re:poo question.... 3 years ago #11351

well ain't that just typical - took her out for her last walk about 1 am and she had a poo!! Not a big one mind, and she's had another this morning - I bet the little madam was waiting for me to post and now she's laid giggling on the sofa

thanks for responses guys - I will remember them for when there IS a problem

(now slinks away muttering about how dogs always seem to make you look silly mutter mutter mutter)

This might sound silly but - was it a normal number 2 ? A previous dog of mine used to have a similar problem - normally when he needed his anal glands cleaning out at the vets, his number 2's became a struggle & then when they did happen they were sort of squashed & certainly difficult ! Simple to resolve by Mr Vet. Not easy to explain !!!Just thought I'd better ask .

Well her poo's are certainly back to normal (what a conversation to be having!!) and I shall certainly monitor for irregularities.....I've heard about other dogs who need their glands emptying, it's something none of mine have ever needed, maybe the raw diet is better for them that way??

She'd had some beef and I think that must have bunged her up a bit. As my dog walker said, at least we know she's not going to explode

(I know what was funny at the breed show, I was talking to some friends and Leah kept wanting to walk off, I thought she had had enough so Steve offered to take her back to the Hotel....he comes back 5 mins later with a much more relaxed Leah....she had pulled him over to a bush so she could have a poo with no-one looking!!! and that was the first time she poo'd when he was with her, bless)

oh and we always seem to have dozens of poo bags in various pockets/bags....

Only dog people could have this kind of conversation and keep a straight face!!! My work colleagues have now got over the shock of me talking about dogs and bitches and semen and such like....they just roll their eyes at me.......
