Just wondering how people feed there deerhounds,
do people use the raised feeders or just put the bowl on the floor,
would it cause any problems if there feed off the floor?,
and for an 8 an half month old D/H whos a little under weight,
would it be better 3 meals a day - or would just 2 be fine?.

Firstly with a young growing Deerhound I feed raised from the floor purely with reference to bone developement.
I always used to feed the adult hounds raised from the floor with reference to "torsion",
however views alter over the years and my adult hounds eat from the floor. It was my decision and my vets as he rightly pointed out dogs will kill and eat their prey from the floor usually devouring the stomach first (that being the sofest part).
I must stress that I feed in large 1 inch high puppy bowls so they dont have to gulp into a deep dish and take in air at the same time. More like pushing the food around.
As for the amount of feeds go with your instinct little and often is better than huge meals.
At that age the growth rate is still fairly high you can always cut back a meal or lower portions.
Hope this helps.

We feed on the ground except for Bree who currently has ?neck problems. With Lockie I trained him to lie down for his dinner as he always lies for kibble so it was easy enough to get him to lie for his dinner. The girls prefer to stand.

I teach them to lie down for their dinner as well. 1 so they don't have to reach and gulp (shallow bowls also) and 2 so that if there is a case of 'I'll have what he's having' I am able to snip it in the bud!
