Hi, It was long time sice I was here. It is mostly facebook nowdays.

Anyway I want to tell you all that Norbert got pneumonia. It started with some hawks last week, and then he got fever. Hes breeder had medicine at home and I gave him, and he get better. He was well for tre days then he got fever again and I take him to hospital. He have to stay there for two nights and in the morning I will catch him when I get home from work. Poor little fellow, I didn't realised that he have to stay calm and warm, and we have a guestdog a whippet in our house and they played and have fun in the weekend and it was probably the reason why he getting bad.

Now I knew and he is not going to play in the nearly two weeks, just stay still and not getting out more than necessary.

It is lucky that he likes to lay down in the beanbag.

Pneumonia's a scary thing and comes on so fast too. My Ruin had it and spent time in the Dick Vet hospital - when we took her in our vets thought it might have been a heart problem (big dog = dodgy heart, apparently) and referred her there. On further examination, heart sound as a pound, lungs full of gunk. We had to provide her with regular steam sessions and do physio to encourage her to cough for about ten days when we got her home. The before and after antibiotics X-rays were fascinating - when she was ill, her lungs were so obviously full of whatever it is that even a novice like me could read the X-ray and the second one done a few days later showed them practically clear. No long term ill effects and she was back to her usual bossy self in no time.

Good to see Norbert getting a proper rest on his beanbag bed - toys at the ready for when he wakes up! I didn't realize deerhounds got pneumonia but I suppose it makes sense. Sid's Ruin certainly had a bad experience with it (with a happy ending thankfully). Hope Norbert is well very soon. Let us know.
P.S. My children live in fear that I'll join facebook!

Thanks all of you.

He is now back home, he was very happy when we got home. I thought he would like to stay still, but not. He wanted to go out directly and I took him out for a short time, and when we came inside again he wanted to go out again. He is used to be outside and he can stay stare for long time. But now he's not. He wanted to play with Ludde and I stopped them. And then I take his temp. and gave him medicine and force him to eat some. And after that he was so surly and I think he was happy when I got of to work. My husband is of course at home he is not alone. And he is not fight with him.....poor little fellow. He is like a cat to give medicine
He cough some but otherwise he is like normal again. Thanks god. I blaime myself that I didn't force him to take it easy in the weekend, I didn't realise it was so important, now I knew.

This is our house by the way in this winter.....much snow and very cold.

Hi, I just want to tell you that Norbert is well again.
He still have to take it easy and we only walks slow in a leach. In the end of next week He can begin to run a little bit, but not playing with other dogs yet. He is eating a little better but is still to skinny.

Hi
I'm glad that Norbert is getting better.
Pure Clunie got pneumonia last January (09) and it was a very scary thing especially as she went downhill so quickly one afternoon, from being her normal self to just curling up and sleeping and not wanting to play with the other dogs. However a good vet and antibiotics and lots of rest(very difficult as we had two young dogs)and she got over it.
Just been catching up on The Forum, hence why not responded sooner, but thinking of you both
