TOPIC: Darcy's Party

Darcy's Party 3 years, 2 months ago #8515

As most of us know Oseosarcoma is an issue with our breed. Darcy is a Deerhound that had been diagnosed and has had treatment. I thought that some of the UK members might be interested in celebrating and helping the cause.
I have permission to cross post.
Any one interested can contact Bev Doyle at bevdoyle@BTCONNECT.COM

Darcy is starting to think about how she would like to celebrate her 7th
birthday. All being well, by the time her birthday comes around, it will be 18
months since her osteo diagnosis and her amputation (and chemo).

Last year, she had a party at home, to celebrate her 6th birthday but this
year, she would like to do something different so that more people can attend
(with or without dogs) and also, she would like to use the opportunity to raise
both awareness of canine osteosarcoma and also, some funds towards
research into getting rid of it for all dogs, worldwide.

Therefore, Darcy wonders if anyone would be interested in celebrating her
birthday at a Heaton Park in Manchester (UK) on Sunday 5th April (her
birthday is actually Monday 6th).

Dogs welcome. People welcome. Weather cannot be guaranteed as this is
the UK but if we do it, we'll do it whatever the weather (even if it means we
have to wear 45456 layers plus wet weather gear).

I have spoken to the Man at The Park and have confirmed details for our
event which will be called Darcy's Party in The Park, on Sunday 5th April 2009.

All funds raised will go to The Greyhound Health and Wellness Program at Ohio
Statio University College of Veterinary Medicine. I am going to specify
though, that Darcys funds go to osteo reseach (apparently, I can do that).

I have a letter from the OSU aknowledging our event (which is in PDF form and
I don't knowwwww how to save it so that I can link to it but I can send you a
copy to your email address, if you let me have your email address) and I also
have a personal note from Dr Guillermo Couto himself.

So, we have set up a paypal account specifically for these funds and anyone
who wants to attend Darcy's Party in the Park (either in person or in not!) can
donate via that paypal account.

The plan is that on the day, at Darcys Party in the Park, we will have a picnic
(teehee). Humans will need to provide their own picnic food/drink/blanket plus
dog water and bowls. Darcy will provide party picnic treats for her dog
guests. Then we'll have a walk around the lake. There will be small items
available to purchase for fund raising purposes on the day.

This event will take place come rain, shine, snow, hail, blizzard, wind or
whatever else the british weather decides on for Sunday 5th April and
hopefully, everyone who has said they will attend, will attend regardless
because osteo and other dog aiments do not stop for the weather.

Please bear in mind that I am not an event organiser and this is just a fun way
of meeting nice peeps with nice dogs, raising funds for a very worthy cause
and celebrating a miraculous birthday. It will be an informal gathering, so
don't expect some giant organised event with jugglers and other such like LOL.

If you know that you want to attend Darcys Party in The Park on Sunday 5th
April 2009, please email me (I need to keep track of numbers as the park has
set a limit of attendees for this event, so it's vital that you let me know if you
plan to come).

If you cannot attend but would like to donate, please email me for the paypal
details.
