As there has been quite a discussion about Aspirin® paracetamol (and ibuprofen)
I would like to tell you what I know about these products.
You can use Aspirin® up to three times a day (10mg/kg) but the dog might get an ulcer.
Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are easily toxic, so do not try to give it to your beloved pet!
We tried once Aspirin® on an adult male, he immediately had diarrhoea………
Now we prefere to give them, if necessary, Rimadyl® even if it is not from one of my favourite companies. Having said this, do give the “European dosage” which is half of the American, than you have no stomach problems. And the flavour tablets are ever so easy to give to them.

I have given Elsie Grey and Daisy May 'Calpol' when they have needed pain relief, it is a children's paracetamol suspension and they seemed ok ( recommended by my vet) and both have had Rimadyl with no side effects. However, that has only been when they have really needed it, I do worry about giving them medication of any sort

No one has mentioned Metacam which is the dog anti inflammatory of choice in Australia. V. exp from the vet but is identical to the human drug Mobic which is easily obtained via script by anyone with arthriticy pains. *cough* cough* cough* oh my aching back....

None of the tummy side effects etc.
Aust Ch Nelungaloo Sam (Atticus) running free
Anduril Caile
Aust Ch Nelungaloo Rhys (Rhys)
D'Arcy Lurcher.

I found Metacam led to upset stomachs on the few occasions I've used it. I'll stick with low dose aspirin, I think.

Last year,my greyhound Dan was very ill,we nearly lost him.He turned yellow overnight with jaundice,he's a white dog but his skin, eyes, lips, everything was yellow. We rushed him to the vets, the first thing the vet asked was,'have you given him paracetamol or ibruprofen?'I hadn't.he said his symptoms were some sort of chemical poisoning. He was admitted, and on a drip for 3 days with a poor prognosis. All the tests indicated poisoning(but not warfarin)but couldn't be pinpointed.Luckily he pulled through, but was liver-damaged for 6months.He's a devil for drinking from dirty puddles when we're out walking, and my feeling is he'd swallowed something washed off the farmers fields.

But I would never give a dog paracetomol or ibruprofen, asprin,my vet says,is ok.

We had lurcher with a similar problem but he could not move all his muscle would not work the vet did all sorts of tests and in the end found that he had to much protein in his body, the protein then attacked his muscles, racing greyhounds are prone to this or so the vet said but he recovered with no drugs and just a low protein diet, Horses get this as well when they are very fit well feed and then have no work not nice there is a name for it but I can not remember what it’s called
