I just have to have a big brag from Australia!!

My handsome Deerhound boy AUST CH Bhealaich Gotta Luv Me "Scrappy" was awarded BEST IN SHOW at the Bathurst Kennel Club All Breeds show on 9 May. He was RUNNER-UP BEST IN SHOW on 10 May and BEST IN GROUP on 11 May. I'm still so excited!! What a weekend! This now puts him on over 540 points (you need 1000 to be a Grand Champion in Australia) and he only turned 2 years old on 10 May - a great birthday present for him (and me - his very proud Mum)!!

What a weekend for Deerhounds as I understand that Jocelyn's Thistleglen Neville was Best in Show at a Hound Club show up near Newcastle on the weekend too!

Big thanks to Chris Howard & Glenda Danger of Bhealaich Deerhounds for breeding such a lovely boy as my special Scrappy!!

Still grinning - Mel Buckley

Wow Mel! Huge congratulations to you. That is some achievement. Who was the judge?

They were a panel from Perth, Western Australia.

Friday was Mr M Bungey (judged hounds & general specials).
Saturday was Mrs P Campbell (judged hounds & Mr Johnson did general specials).
Sunday was Mr A Johnson (judged hounds & Mr P Tallentire did general specials).

Worth keeping an eye out for them judging - they obviously don't mind putting up a Deerhound!

Cheers
Mel

go scraps (and you of course), what a weekend, you must have been on such a high driving home!!

I will have to write those judges down, you wouldn't think it coming from WA but how fantastic to find three deerhound friendly judges!

And Neville won too... the deeries are clawing back the respect

I spent Sunday at the judges exam, not quite as exciting but at least we exposed some up and coming judges to what a wolfhound and a deerhound look like

Two of the judges said that they had never put a Deerhound up before, but it was a pleasure to see such nice Deerhounds (there were three at the show, my Scrappy, his daughter Anduril Ravenscraig and Helen Roberts Rickaby Devil ina Greysuit). I guess they probably don't get to see many Deerhounds in WA! At least they are happy to put them up when they do see one they like.

Congratulations, that is fantastic for you and excellent news for all the Deerhounds! Would it be ok for me to put that picture up on the front page and say he won Best in Show? I can credit Andrew Parker with the photo if needed.
Well done
Rob

Mel did you get a picture on the day? Shame on you if you didn't.

Yes I did - Ronald Bowden was doing the photography for the show, so hopefully there should be some good photos - will post one when I get them!
