I mentioned earlier that Tess, my Boxing Day Baby, had had some successes lure coursing the end of December. Since that time ASFA has posted the final year end standings. Prior to this Tess was tied for 17th and after the last trials I had hopes of her moving up a couple of spots. When I saw the final results I was overwhelmed, She had moved from that 17th place to Forth of the top twenty Deerhounds. We missed two of the larger events and that was why I hadn't expected too much advancement. There were 48 Deerhounds competing in the country. I'm definetly a proud Poppa.

Good for her !! Congrats to the team of you - I always love the relaxed athmosphere at lurecourse trials and meeting friends and seing all those wonderful , excited ( and silly , at times ! ) various sighthounds .Not to forget the sometimes so spectacular runs - usually with the Greys or Whippets .
Verena , in the depth of a BC winter , dreaming of spring and the first trainings to come

verena , looking forward to spring a a new lurecoursing season

Thanks. We too aare looking forward to the new season. here in Sunny Florida it was 22f this morning at 7:00am and 26f by the time got things together and got the girls out to walk. So we're getting a tiny bit of winter and it's great. Though there are those who whin about it.

Are you planning to attend the National Deerhound Specialty in St, Louis? If so, we'll see you there. We were at the one in North Carolina, but California was too far to go.

No , unfortunately not . I only attended 1 specialty so far , in Oregon , 3 years ago - everything else is too far for me for the time being. I do travel a bit to our lurecourse events , almost all of them in the Vancouver ( BC ) area - which means a good 5 hour drive - but through beautiful , beautiful mountains and wilderness....
I had to laugh when I read somewhere on this forum , that your girls refuse to go out when it is 2C - the poor babies would be lost here . We will son be going down again to minus 25C ( which really is unusual for our part of BC , but happened already once this winter , lasted for 10 days or so - after that everything else feels rather warm and balmy ).

Thanks, Sally, Ann, and Patricia; we're trying to focus more on the lure coursing than shows this year. She needs about 48 more points for the Field Championship.

Verena, it wasn't my girls that wouldn't go out. My girls are ready to go all the time. Though they havaaen't had those low temps. At least not wince they were small pups. One, Alice is from north of Newcastle, and Tess is from southern Perthshire, And both were born in the winter.

Congratulations on Tess' great showing.
I do hope to see you and get to know other dh people at the Missouri Specialty. The toss up right now is whether I house-sit for Barb and Richard at Fernhill, or whether Barb & I go with a van full of hounds & leave Richard at home. I am going to work at getting Cailean qualified to Lure Course and will be very excited if we do go for the majority of the week. I have heard it mentioned on the Deerhound L list that some specialties in the US have over 150 deerhounds in attendance. That would be a sight to behold. Cailean is a social butterfly and wants to be every-bodies best friend. My shoulder will have a workout for sure.
