Hi
Don't think that we will make it as poor Clunie is in season and has also cut the sheat around a tendon in her front leg - happened in the garden !! Dogs!! Hope that you all enjoy the coursing tomorrow - hopefully we will make it for the Christmas one.

We're back from Skye so we'll be there. Look forward to catching up.

Excellent. I've got some of next year's Deerhound Club calendars if anyone's interested - will be bringing Michael and Claire's and Sue and Kevin's plus a few to sell. £7 each and cheap at twice the price.

Have a great time all, don't forget the pictures. This is when I wished I lived closer.

Hope there are some pix, me and the dogs are catching up after being away for two weeks, we're off again tomorrow for three days so haven't got time to get to the coursing. Bryn well hacked off about that.

We missed you too, Anne. How's the filming going?

However, we had a reasonable turnout, albeit a bit short on Deerhounds. We had some new Other Breeds, as well as nearly enough Beagles to run a special Beagle stakes. Sue's Rannoch won the 8-dog Deerhound stakes from my Tavish and the three finalists in the other breeds (17 dogs present) were newcomer Jess, a Saluki x lurcher who took to lure coursing like a duck to water; Zucco Whippet and Zak the big greyhound boy. It was a hotly contested final, narrowly won by Zucco. We finished quite early so there was time for a few fun runs, including a blistering race between Troy and Fly the lurchers - so well-matched that they were neck and neck all the way round. I was delighted not to have to judge it because they're both black and were running without collars. Raja the lurcher came for the first time today and we spent ages trying to decide what went into him. Best guess was a bit of Beardie and quite a lot of Afghan. Whatever his ancestry, he's a lovely boy and was getting the hang of what's required of him by the end of the day. Jude the Saluki and his delightful puppy daughter Inga were there, as well as their mental friend Dandy the Chinese Crested, who took a great fancy to Sue's Poodle puppy and caused us great amusement. And we had Kaspar the Saluki who's more used to the show ring, running his wee Saluki heart out with a big cheesy grin on his face. Marjory's Madam ran rings around Corrie, having decided he needed to be chatted up, and showed us just how nippy she can be on the turn. Welcome to all the new dogs, great to see the usual suspects again (expecially Tara, who is just the sweetest thing) and yet again, huge and heartfelt thanks to Team Rose for having us.

Some of us lurcher owners were puzzling over Raja (we love guessing mixes) and reckon there is greyhound and wire pointer in there. Raja had a shorter muzzle than most of the longdog mixes, and a slightly different set to his eyes, but a stunning dog. He had the occipital ridge at the back of his head, so defo sighthound as well as his build.

Dandy was such a monkey with poor Magic, who is a little laydee

Thanks for organising a lovely time again

German Wire's a distinct possibility, right enough, especially for head type and might account for his liver pigment too. However, his coat's very soft, which was what lead us towards Afghan. Also there's something very Afghan about the way he stands and moves. Isn't lurcher-guessing fascinating?

Thank you all for coming and it's so nice that the dogs that do not race have just as much fun
Magic had such good fun today I think she is going to turn out to be a little pink tart
Zuco's win was well over due

Can someone please bring a dog that will beat my Rannoch next time

Ah well, Tavish tried, but he's not racing fit at the moment. Some day...

Re:Lure coursing at Sue's 2 years, 7 months ago #15979

Hi all,

A great time was had again by Claire and I, apart from the fact that our Murph is still nowhere near fit and won't be for months yet, and baby Mara is still too young. Could be she'll be grown up enough by the time the Christmas meet comes around, we think. She's shown some interest in the lure already, unlike her big brother who was pants even when fit!

I agree that home advantage and sheer speed means that Rannoch trounces the field. His old fella Tavish should still be able to teach him a trick or two and Dileas is always dead quick, but simply ain't going to be able to match him stride for stride. The only deerhounds around with the physique to match Rannoch are Tara and Corrie - they're just going to have to get into practice between races (or we drum up some competition!).

That said, our Farnorth pals were great and Blue and Brodie looked really promising when they came down in the summer.

We just need to work on Nell - maybe one day she might bring along her Rannoch and Lomond?

I just need to keep trying...
