Sunshine, light breeze, and best of all no snow - perfect lure coursing weather. We had a very decent turnout indeed today - twelve Deerhounds and fourteen Other Breeds, ranging from Bella the sub-Beagle through the real Beagles, Cullen the black Lab and lots of Whippets to Fly lurcher and lovely Bryn from Team Fastpants in size.
For the Deerhounds, Duncan and Bridget Robertson's Shimmer (Chuillin Afra) won the Deerhound stakes from Sue and Kevin Rose's Rannoch (Gentiehun Tain). Rannoch decided that he's far too famous actually to run in a final and packed in half way round to talk to his fans, leaving Shimmer to show him how it should be done - she'd have happily gone on for another circuit. Team Cusidh and Team Chuillin both brought baby puppies for an outing and they were duly ooh'd and aah'd over - lovely pups all of them and very self-possessed wee souls. Sheila-from-Oz was also holding court and a very impressive and cuddly lass she is - she's sprouting coat like nobody's business and shows every sign of turning silver. Marjory's Madam and Harry's Corrie had too much fun playing to even consider chasing a lure, although Madam did run most of a bye with Rannoch later on and Righ (Cusidh) also got the idea when he was bye dog for Shimmer. The other semi-finalist was Fluffy Rose (G Double Agent) who has really got the hang of this lure business.
Other Breeds were topped in a three dog final (the byes were getting really complicated by this stage) by Bryn Fastpants from Fly Lurcher and Biscuit Whippet, representing Team Menace Jerseys. New dog Daisy Roy-McAuslane the ex-track Greyhound who is now Murphy and Mara's big sister was running a blinder until a split web in her front foot put paid to any further running, but she'll be back, I'm sure. Welcome also to new Whippets Enzo and Milo.
At one point I believed that Biggles the Beagle had actually won a race from his kennelmate Beanie, but I'd missed the beginning, where he'd dodged round the middle, cut them off at the pass and joined in towards the end and claimed he'd won - that dog is getting to be a crafty little devil!
Once again, we had a lovely day thanks to the kindness of Team Rose. See y'all next time.

Sounds like you had a smashing day out. Would love to see some photos of the mayhem...

Blimey, your commentary made really exciting reading Sid and we were there!

Lots of lovely new dogs as well as the seasoned campaigners and some great gossiping, two of my favourite things!

Fly managed to find enough energy to run around at the stables for a couple of hours on the way back and hasn't moved since we got home!

A great day once again, thanks Sue and co!

Did you see the old besom coming on to Corrie? He was thrilled!

Tarka is my favourite too. Gorgeous girl.

Thanks very much for the race resume, Sid: Daisy will definitely be back.

Murph and Mara had a run out - Mara still too young and daft but the bold Murphy was going really well (for the first time - he has shown no inclination to course up til now, now that he has the metalwork in his leg!) until he slipped, so one can only hope he'll be giving the Big Boys like Tav and Rannoch a run for their money in future meets.

Claire and I were so proud of the daft big lump and you could tell all the dogs and owners had a great time as usual. We all crashed when we got back home.

Photos please!

Hear hear she took up her usual position where she could make sure everything ran smoothly as usual which was great to see!

PS forgot to take my camera, who else has photos?

The photo of Daisy is simply brilliant.

Also a great photo of Tav with Murph in the background.

Don't they just look as thought they're having the time of their lives!!!

I think that was Biggles's kennel mate Beanie, who is a serious flying machine.

Isn't it a brilliant pic of Beanie, though? I love the ears tucked back with the wind!

Great pics. Must try and make it in the summer when the horses are out at grass.

Hello All,
I can only repeat Pam... spectacular photographs, wish we could be there....

Sid,
interesting that you say Sheila is turning silver, we thought she would stay dark. Rose, her mother is still dark, her sister ( Tess, that we kept ) is still dark.
Mind you, Tess has not grown much coat yet.

She's definitely growing coat like it was going out of fashion - hardly surprising since she arrived from summer into the coldest winter we've had in decades - and from what we could see on Sunday it's going to be quite light in colour. Silver'll look good on her!

My Dileas was black as a puppy and young adult and her brother Tavish was yellow brindle with a distinctly brindle junior coat, but now they're both about the same mid-grey. Dileas is stil a bit darker, but not much. Their mother was quite light when she came to live with us at the age of two and a half, but has steadily darkened with age. (I never saw DownJess as a puppy so I've no idea how she started out.)

Just goes to show you can't tell what the final colour will be from the puppy coat.
