At Lodge Park the club did have a Hog Roast, but from what I’ve heard, it was too much of a temptation for the dogs
There is now a fantastic buffet, organised by a club member and we all contribute food or drink (or both).
The Lodge Park thing is great as there is a 17th century grandstand (It was used for deer coursing and betting back then) and a lot of people dress in period costume.
At the BSFA (not BFSA as we put earlier) There are all breeds of sighthounds, from pocket rocket wippets to Afgans and we've even had a wolfhound. There are also trials where members run their lurchers.
As for more event, I know Sue in Scotland runs fantastic events every month (lots of information on here) and there are some other members who do their own thing.

Unfortunately, although called the British Sighthound Field Association, all the meetings are now held at Newbury. When it was first started by the Borzoi club (Borzoi Sighthound Field Association?) they did hold meetings all over. But over the years getting an area big enough and more importantly, safe enough to run the dogs, became harder and harder and so it camped to Newbury, where it stayed.

It's good to see fit dogs run, I don't know why there are not more events.

I'm rather fond of the burger van/hog-roast idea:-)

Lurcher World run Simulated Coursing events at number of Country Shows in the UK,
see : www.lurcherworld.info/ pag...4242273722.html

It's primarily set up for lurchers, but they do allow hounds to run too !

Not sure about the burger Van, you can end up with some really dodgy burgers in some places !

We ran Fergal at one of these events at Knebworth Park last year. He got to the show final and was up against a terrier and a lurcher. They made Fergal start about 10m behind the lurcher and 15m behind the terrier, they said it was because he had longer
legs
Anyway, the lurcher soon get to the front then Fergal passed the terrier. As it was a short course, about 150m, he didn't really get into his stride, but he was still catching up as they passed the line, but if the lurcher really wanted to, I'm sure he would have left Fergal in his dust.

That hardly seems fair ! Is should have been the lurcher 10m back over those kind of distances. Seems a little silly letting a terrier run against those 2.

Yes, it was funny to watch. We only entered for a bit of fun, didn't think for a moment he would make the final.

They do need time to get in to their stride. Most lurcher/terrier shows do a bit of racing, but it's very short sprints and there are often 4 or more dogs running at the same time and not all of the dogs that need muzzles wear them so it can be a bit rough at times.

Rumbling Bridge is great because there is so much room for the dogs to run.
