I’d be very interested to hear your views or suggestions about adding a for sale/wanted section to the site.
All ads would be vetted.
There could be sections for -
books, pictures collectables etc,
wanted items,
rescue deerhound types that need a home
any other ideas??? Misc.
The thing I would like your feedback on though is the advertising of puppies. There seems to be a need for this, but I want to do it appropriately i.e. engage with reputable breeders and avoid puppy farms etc.
We do accept news of litters and limited advertising in the forum (although I remove posts from people who join purely to advertise) and it’s always lovely to see your puppy pictures which we’d want to continue as they’re great fun. However, a for sale section could be kept quite separate from the forum as I’m not sure the forum is the best place for adverts.
There is a certain expectation that puppies should be found homes before the litter is produced. Obviously there are cases where this isn’t possible and some pups may need to be advertised.
I don’t want this site to facilitate over-breeding, but if advertising is done responsibly is there a problem?
I do want make this site good and useful to you as its contributors.
Like everything else on the site this would be a free service, therefore if it’s going to rock the boat or generate ill feeling I’d rather just not do it.
Please let me know your opinions and what you think is appropriate.
If you would like to contact me privately with your views then you can email me at Rob @ Scottish-deerhound.com - remove spaces around the @
Hi Rob, I thought that show wins, litters etc came under the
heading Announcements. It does say litters in small type.
I think it would maybe a good idea to have a For Sale section
but I think you are right in that it would have to be thought
out properly re puppies for sale, it may or may not be full
of pit falls. I put Nell MacBeans two dog pups on for her
because she asked me to because she couldn't work out how to
do it herself and I thought that that was what the
announcement section was for, as well as for show wins etc.
Perhaps I got it wrong. Anyway I'll give it some thought and
let yhou know what my thoughts on it are. Perhaps everyone
else could give their oppinions as well.
Hi Sally. There is no problem with putting the pups on the forum, that is what it is for, sorry if you thought I was saying otherwise. I just want to improve the site and I thought a 'classified' section might be a good idea. Please do continue to put news of litters/pups onto the forum. With a classified ad system you could remove your ad when you have sold your item/pup - in the forum it stays forever, I'm sure there are other benefits. Hope I've explained that a bit better this time
Thanks
Rob
I think it sounds a good idea. I think we all 'know' one another and sometimes it is nice to know who has what etc. I noticed in an earlier post, Lynn I think had a litter, posted pictures and had enquiries via that post, which is good. It would be down to the owner to vet the potential owners etc and by us all getting to know one another it wouldn't hurt.
The puppy rescue bit sounds brilliant, it might help a few hounds being rehomed. The For Sale bit sounds good too, though we all live so far apart, but it might help some people find something they are deperately looking for.
I think you can only try and see how it goes, if there were anything you weren't happy with you could re think.
Excellent idea Rob. I think classified forsale/swap/wanted section would be most useful.
As you say , ads should be vetted by a Moderator, and I'm sure some of us would be glad to help out in that department , if your too busy to do it all yourself.
Like Lurch says, give it a go , if it doesn't work out, you can always take it out.
Thanks , Steve.

I too think it is a good idea - you have obviously thought it through and identified any potential pitfalls. Would the hound rehoming go against the Deerhound club's rehoming section (Sue Reynolds)? Just a thought! Personally I think that it should enhance it after all it is for the benefit of the hounds.
A 'D/H puppies for sale section would be good and as Lurch says we all 'know' each other and the more experienced members could advise us less experienced about pedigree's, what to look for ect.
I would also be willing to help out as a moderator if needed (you'd have to tell me what to do) but I really love this site and you have done such a wonderful job with it that I, for one, would love to see it grow and develop. I also think that it is great that you are seeking the forum members views and really involving us in this way.

Hi all who have posted so far
Thanks for all that
Clubs should be considered and I don't want to upset or step on the toes of any clubs, its not just the UK club we have to consider though its all the clubs who have members who use this site. Pretty complicated! This site does not represent and is not affiliated to any clubs, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't respect their policies.
I think if the site gets much busier we will need help - so I'll bear that in mind - thanks!
I think i might setup the ads section, but keep litter/puppy news/sales etc on the forum, until we have explored all the problems. At least people could see what it looks like and see if its worth developing.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Keep it coming!
Rob
I think a classified section would be great. I wish I lived in the UK where more deerhounds and crosses are available although puppies for sale will certainly send me longing for another.
I don't have unlimited resources but I would always keep my eyes out for deerhound jewellery, sculpture etc. Barb
I agree that a classified section is a great idea. Posting details of dogs requiring rehoming is, I think, especially useful and I'm sure nobody would object to providing this help to Deerhounds requiring rescuing.
mmm. sorry about that elvee - not sure why - can you try the contact us form .. here... www.scottish-deerhound.com/contact-us

Overall I think it is a good idea. I know myself that there is an artwork I've been chasing for years and it is either way out of my price range or a small reproduction which isn't suitable either. Oooh! Incase someone has one, I'm after "Silent Sympathy" by Herbert Dicksee. I don't mind a repro provided it is 20" x 16"
The selling and rescuing of puppies/dogs I feel would be a bit more complicated. Issues such as reputable breeders (present compnay excluded ) and such may be difficult to monitor. But it certainly could be a useful resource for potential buyers. As mentioned it would be the breeders responsibility to vet the buyers.
But I do like the idea of a Classified section.

Thanks for the tease The Wolfhound Shop used to sell them but for some reason are having trouble with the printers and they now only have the small 10" one. I want the big one.
Ooops!! Didn't see the ebay addie
Thank you. I will be watching

The frame measures 35" x 31" and the print itself is 24" x 30"
Looks like they will only post to UK but I will keep an eye on it anyway. Depending on price maybe I could have it sent to someone there and then try and sort out shipping over here.
Cheers

I would be happy to help if you want to post it to someone in uk. I could then send it on to you. Offer is there if you want
I think a regular " for sale " section would be great - for all things regarding sighthounds/deerhounds , but I have difficulties , too , with advertising puppies . Perhaps an extra section where litters can be announced and contact addresses given - but I think , it should be kept brief and not turned into a ( free ) advertisement board for puppies , no matter how cute they are.
Rehoming is , imo , a different story - perhaps the person ( forgot her name ) who is " officially " managing /organising the rehoming of deerhounds would be interested to also use your site ? This might be of great benefit .
