Hi, stumbled accross this site through a google search so thought I would stop by and say hello. Sadly we had to have our beloved Harry put to sleep yesterday due to Cardiomyopathy. He was the daftest Deerhound you could have met. He was bred from Pharcourse lines by Elaine Medlicott with whom I traded two Lurcher puppys nine years ago. Harry was five months old when we got him and settled into our house the minute he was let out of the van. He was 31" to the shoulder with a very regal demeanor coupled with a cheaky streak often burping in company and making it look as though it where one of us! He will be sadly missed but at least his suffering is over, he went down hill rapidly over the last three weeks. I shall keep popping in from time to time when my busy shedule allows and maybe post a few more pics of the 'Big Fella'

Hi Jim, glad you found the forum. Sorry for your loss. I hope by sharing in the lives of other Deerhound owners, it will ease the pain. Lets have some more pics of your lovely chap.

Hi Jimbob and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry about your loss. They leave such a big hole when they have gone. As Steve said I hope you find some solace and I would love to see some more photos of Harry

Welcome Jimbob, how sad, I do hate hearing thigs like that, I know how I would feel if it were my 'big fella' we use that terminology also and our boy also burps loudly when out walking!!!
Where abouts do you come from?

Hi thankyou all for the warm welcome and messages of support, it is really appreciated. It's true to say that he has left a big void in the family and our other dogs seem lost without him. We have three Lurchers too, two of them are kenneled outside, the other is a lazy house dog. They are all over ten years old now and have pretty much grown up together. The two outdoor dogs, both bitches, used to howl when ever Harry was away from the dog pen on his own, but since Wednesday they havn't uttered a sound and look completely lost. It's as if they know he is not coming back it really is quite strange. It is still early days yet but I am certain that when we are ready to fill the void we shall get another Deerhound!

When I get a minute I will try and sort out some more photies of Harry and the others, they are on disk somewhere safe and sod's law I can't put my hands to them just now!

Helen - We live near West Kirby on the Wirral.
