Hey everyone!

I'm Outi Puruskainen a 22-year-old femme from southern Finland. I live in city called Vantaa, it's near by the capital of Finland.
And I'm student at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences for Laboratory Sciences.

And the Dogs:
I have two sighthounds: Greyhound bitch called Tiuhti. Tiuhti in the greyhound-data. And Deerhound dog called Pyry. Pyry in the Finnish dog data base, the English version isn't working right now so information only in Finnish.
*Added: So totally forgot the ages. Tiuhti is 3year-old and Pyry is just 10months. *
I have owned an IW as well but unfortnately My First One, The Dog of My Life, died just before I got Pyry, 9 days before his 5th birthday.
Hopefully I'll get another IW in the future.

But back to the businnes, meaning Pyry.
My first Deerhound, which makes me feel like I've just ran a full marathon every day.

A warm welcome to the forum, and to your lovely dogs.

I also saw the pictures of your Pyry on your other thread, and he is utterly gorgeous. He is the spitting image of our Murphy (Killoeter Ollach) who is exactly the same age. We also are the proud owners of our baby girl Mara (Killoeter Paabay) who is five months and a total bundle of mischief.

I've been to Vantaa - I went on a business trip to Heureka around five years ago at a conference hosted by the esteemed Pele Persson. Being a scientist, you should be aware of him and his work in public engagement with science and technology: he's well respected worldwide. I thought both Vantaa and Helsinki were wonderful. I saw Nordic walking for the first time in Vantaa, and the town reminded me of a cross between East Kilbride (a New Town in Central Scotland nearby to me) and a giant Center Parcs, but cleaner, and with a lot more expensive beer.

I stayed at your Sokos Hotel, not realising it was probably the nightclub and casino serving the whole of the town, and got poisoned by mushrooms in the soup.

But I never saw any deerhounds! I must go back someday, even if it's to pick up another wooden Kuksa cup, which my ex-wife now has possession of.

Yes, I know the place even though I've lived here less than year now. I live about 5km from Tikkurila and do my daily shopping at Tikkurila nowadays. It's cheaper.
I don't wonder why you haven't seen any Deerhounds at Vantaa, there're not that many of them here and even less of them go in the middle of city.

I do it once in a while but I need to prepare myself well before because Pyry has this "can't and won't behave myself because here are lots of people" -mode when we are at public places.

But well, I will read the topics a bit later cause I think Pyry is willing to do some obedience training now before we meet Pyry's 2nd best friend bullmastiff bitch called Whoopy.

When I saw the fantastic photos and read about your versatile and beautiful puppy in the " activities " thread I was wondering wether he and my youngest might be related and yes , of course , Caoinlan( Pyry's dad ! ) is the connection - they ARE bred for versatility and enthusiasm and wanting to work , for brains and soundness of body and mind ( the Australian bloodline in their pedigrees bringing in the " extra bounce " as I have heard it describes ) .
Is your Greyhound a retired racer by any chance ? freinds of ine do have 4 of tose meanwhile and they are lovely , lovely hounds and great fun at lurecoursemeets.
Have to go for the morning hike now , the girls ( 4 deerhounds ) ae complaining

Allan and I have 3 dogs - a rotti x lab; a lurcher (deerhound x greyhound) and our first deerhound (Clunie). I too was wondering what happened to the tail. Clunie managed to get her tail shut in a door as a pup (6 months old) and unfortunately she had to have about half of it amputated. Most of the time you don't notice it and at least she can still wag it. So like your deerhound, for a while she was in coloured banadages - blue I think - but bright blue... since then she's had other colours such as bright pink prior to Dunblane show as she managed to cut her front leg...
