Hi there!!

My name is Holly and my partner Sean and I are going to pick up our new deerhound puppy today I literally cannot wait!! He is 12 years old and I think we are going to call him Black Jack (Jack for short). I have loads of experience with dogs, includig large breeds, but never had a deerhound before!! think it's gonna be good though!

I assume by your mail you meant 12 weeks not years otherwise your puppy will be rather big and a bit of a shock to you!! What is the breeding? I have 3 DH's and a whippet.

hello from jenny, paul and D/H's jag and Faye in New Zealand. We're new to deeries as well but went from 0 to 2 in 2 days at the beginning of July. So I know all about the excitement of getting them! I imported mine from Australia so there was a few weeks of anticipation while all the blood tests etc were done. All worth the wait though, especially since I have wanted one for 30 years!! Anyway Faye is 18 weeks and getting more and more fun every day. Enjoy yours when he arrives.

Hello there Holly & Sean How are you managing with the new drhd pup? I recall picking up my first drhd puppy and that was more than 16 years ago now. He was 12 weeks too, and a long car trip away, so I packed my little travel crate and off I went - only to discover on arrival that he was already three times the size of my crate!! What a laugh! Deerhound puppies grow like weeds. What other large breeds have you owned? Any sighthounds? You two are going to have such fun!

Aw, thanks everyone! He is so lovely, I can't believe how calm he is, I have never known a puppy like it! He is nothing like anything we've had before, I have had a great dane in the past, but this is a different kettle of fish! He has settled in beautifully and is watching TV with Sean. Will post some cute puppy pics tomorrow! His show name is Hairymon the Undertaker, he is out of Anmialchu Beinn A'Chonzie at Hairymon and Shelbray Pewter at Hairymon. His sire is a huge boy, so we are hoping to have a lovely big lad on our hands!

Congratulations on your first deerhound. He looks magnificent - and a bundle of trouble!

All the very best with the wee man - he won't be too wee for any length of time at all. You can literally watch them get bigger at that age!

We survived the night with just one more wee! He has been so well behaved, he is quite timid though and still unsure of his surroundings, but he is beginning to explore a little more. Here is a photo with his favourite toy!
