Hello,

I'm the servant of three lurchers of various crosses but lost my Beloved deerhound X greyhound in June. She was 28 tts and weighed 35kilos when she was well. I rescued from EGLR in May 2000 and loved every last inch of her beautiful soul.

I've made a decision that when my old man milo crosses the bridge I'm going to find another deerhound or deerhound X that needs a home. They are theeee most amazing dogs.
If it has hound in it, I love it.

Re:I'm a lurcher person saying hi. 2 years, 6 months ago #16147

Hi Pagandog, welcome to the forum. I think most of us started out with Lurchers, mine was a Deerhound/Greyhound/Collie mix, the most obedient, faithful dog I have ever owned (Murphy DH - Paws in ears!!)

Hopefully I have attached a picture of him, he was a wannabe Deerhound, only fawn in colour, stood about 30" to the shoulder, he died in 1998 of cancer, we tried various treatments, they removed his spleen, but when we took him back and they wanted to try something else, we said enough was enough. To this day, I'll never get over losing this fella.

He was only about 6 months old in this picture and filled out so much more, he died at 10.
Last Edit: 2 years, 6 months ago by Lurch8252.

The morning after we bought him home, he was about 10 weeks old here.

and the last to leave was a beautiful fawn Greyhound bitch called Meg, aka Lady Derrycool, another lovely dog with a lovely temperament. I always felt she was lonely as she had lots of Lurchers and fellow greyhound around, but as she got older, she disliked other dogs, I felt it unfair to get another one. She died of cancer in 2004 aged 12. She had a good racing career and her Mum was a runner up in the Derby, my father in law bred her. We had a year 'off' puppy duties but could stand it no longer and along came Murphy and Paddy and life feels complete again!
Please excuse the decor, we had just moved in!!!!

and the current residents, Murph and Pad (and we did decorate!!)

Welcome to this site. I am also a fan of the DeerhoundXs It really hurts when they pass on, it's nice to hear you are thinking of another one, they are the most special of hounds.

There's a long queue of Deerhound people waiting to adopt Anne's Bryn, should (it's not at all likely, but we can dream) he ever become available. I'm at the front!

Hello pagandog and welcome! I didn't even know what a lurcher was until I joined this forum - from what I now gather they're sighthound crosses, not necessarily deerhounds, is that right? I'm learning to appreciate them as the lurcher enthusiasm around here is contagious! Take for example the photo of Lurch's fawn lurcher further up on this thread - who wouldn't love that dog? Makes me wish we hadn't lost the reds and golds in the deerhound lines.

Thanks for the nice comments about Bryn, I won't tell him, he's big headed enough as it is with the filming. I've got my eye on Rannoch, but Sue has got wise and doesn't let him out her sight when I'm about.

Happy Christmas everyone.
Lots of long cold walks and empty beaches....my favourite time with my dogs! Oh and some 'naive' rabbits if we're lucky.
If it has hound in it, I love it.
