Hi there
Have just found this site so thought I would join.
We have 2 Deerhounds, Callie (Lyart Yester) who will be 3 at christmas and Fergal (Sorisdale MacManus)9 months. We got intrested in Deerhounds about 12 years ago when we rescused a Deerhound X from the RSPCA and promised ourselves 'one day we would have a real one' and as Sid said when we collected Callie "One is never enough!"

So onto something strange, about a week ago, taking the dogs for their night time walk, we were followed for a good 10 mins by a fox. A very nice looking animal possibly quite young. The dogs were going mad and I could not let them off.
A couple of days later, this time at about 6 in the morning the same thing, I think the same fox, came out of some woodland into the field.
Again had trouble holding the dogs so let Callie chase it away (it was close enough to the woods to make a clean getaway)

Anyway didn't see it again until last night when I caught it's eyes in the beam of my tourch, luckly the dogs missed it this time, and it made its escape.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Spot and welcome

What a strange thing to happen and what a brave young fox

I have never experienced anything like this before as any foxes are usually pursued by my dogs. Be interesting to see what others on here have experienced:laugh:

We have the occasional fox on the farm, but they've usually got more sense than to follow the hounds around. However, I did see one menacing one of my cats in the field that runs round our house one morning when the girls were both in season and purdah and Tavish and I were out for our constitutional very early in the morning. There was a definite stand-off going on until Tavish took it upon himself to send bold Reynard packing. Huntington the cat was quite relieved. I would speculate that Spring's fox could be a home-raised one that's been released when it got past the cute stage, which might account for its lack of self-preservation when Deerhounds are around. And yay to Callie for seeing it off - that's the spirit, wee girl!

We had our own wee drama this morning in the semi-darkness when we were coming home from the morning walk with all three on leads. A rabbit got up and zoomed off within ten yards of us, doing naught to sixty in about half a second and disappearing into the gloom leaving three very frustrated Deerhounds and a cursing Sid. Mercifully I wasn't pulled over, although Dileas did try a second lunge and I had to have a word in her ear about it. Not bad for a dog with kennel cough, eh? Tavish has caught it as of this morning and is feeling very sorry for himself.

Don was taking Zippo out 2 nights ago for his night pee. As he steps out the front door, there were 2 rabbits in front yard. Luckily Zippo was on his leash and well behaved. Don was concerned he might have pulled him off the step in his eagerness to show daddy how this is done. You see, he still remembers that daddy missed his first kill. Last oct (just a wee baby) he killed a rabbit in the park near our home. Fortunately in was very late, about 3am, and no one else saw it. Zippo was so exited when we got home, he ran up to the bedroom, jumped on the bed and woke Don up with the news....

Welcome Spot
Was it Fergal at the Ltd Show in September that got his foot stuck? if so I hope he is doing well now after all his probs
A fox would never stand a chance of doing anything like that with my lot

Yep, that was Fergal and he has healed very well thanks, a slight infection, taken care
of with antis.

I think the fox was only following because the hounds were still on leads
and I hadn't let them off yet.
