After reading through this very interesting forum I just wanted to say a short Hello and introduce ourselves. We - that includes my husband, a cat and two deerhounds - live in a small village near Cologne. My deerhound ladies are Wanda who ist 7,5 years, and Fiona who is 2 years old. Wanda has been living with us for 7 years now and Fiona joint us last April, we got her from the sighthound-rescue "Initiative Windhundhilfe". While Wanda ist real bombproof, Fiona still is a bit anxious - but it is getting better all the time. I really fell in love with the breed and cannot imagine living without a grey hairy monster anymore. I am working as a journalist (I think you call it free lancer what I do? I am not sure, sorry, I think I have to improve my English, words fail sometime

s) and thanks to e-mail and internet doing most of the work from my home-office.

I will try to put in some pics, but I do not know if I am able to, I am not a genius with these technical things.

Now I will browse through the forum again ...

Greetings from Germany
Sabine

Welcome to the forum Sabine, Wanda and Fiona. What super dogs.

I've just edited your post to remove the " " from the title as otherwise the front page post summaries don't work too well. Its a bug in the site software!
Thanks
Rob

Hello Sabine and Hairy monsters. We are John and Ailish and we live with our rescue terrier Murphy and the lovely DH Freya whom we will have had for one year tomorrow. She is 14 monthe and just the sweetest natured dog we have had. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Thank you so much for the friendly welcome. I am sure i will enjoy beeing here in this forum. There is still so much to read, I don´t know if I ever get through. Well, now I have to walk the hounds, wonder whether I can lift them from the couch.

Have a nice evening

Hi Sabine, Wanda and Fiona
Love it to meet you in the forum, I think I have a wonderful book written by you. The story of the meeting in the restaurant with deerhound or the story in the forest with the hunter.....wonderful!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you can post some of your storys for our English-spoken friends here on the forum.
A fan of your homepage and of your storys.

Thank you again for welcoming us. I have read through a bit more and I love this forum.

How nice, a reader of my book in the forum, the world is so small. But what a pity, all my stories and books are written in German. Well - perhaps I could try to translate one, but this might be difficult. I will just try - but I will need some time to do so. About the book: It is a book with short stories I collected, not all experiences with dogs, but some. The stories are about funny and sometimes embarrassing things that happened to me. I wrote another one - Wandas diary - where she writes about coming to us and about making holidays.

Thank you very much for your interest in the stories. I will do my very best to translate one.

Hello Sabine,

Very interesting, you have writing a book over Deerhounds in German?
How is the name from your book?

I hope this is not unallowed marketing ... The two books are: "Wanda - immer eine Nasenlänge voraus. Tagebücher einer Deerhounddame" translated it would be "Wanda - always a nose ahead of the rest. Diaries of a Deerhoundlady." and the 2nd one is: "Weiblich, 50 flucht ..." that is the collection of short stories. The title ist difficult to translate, it is a play on words from a filmtitle.

A nice sunday - here it is hot and humid ... not deerhoundweather at all.

Re:Another Hello from Germany 1 year, 7 months ago #25896

Hello Sabine,

Thanks for your informations.

I have found your Deerhound book "Wanda - immer eine Nasenlänge voraus" by AMAZON.
I will order the book in the next days.

Thank you so much ... I am discovering a few familiar faces here!

And I was busy, I posted the story with the hunter under the category "Fun". Now I am really exhausted. Translating from German ino English without changing the meaning is very difficult.

There are a few differences between these languages you should be aware of.

German:
1: Loch = hole
2: Fell = coat
3: Faul = lazy
4: Auge = eye
5: Rennen = running

English:
1: Loch = also a kind of hole, but with water in it (scottisch)
2: Fell = pret. of fall
3: Fault = defect
4: Auger = a spiral formed drill.
5: Rennet = Also running, but like melting cheese, not a deerhound.

And so on.

There iis one very very important deerhound term that is the same in both german and english:

SOFA !
