We have two Deerhounds as part of our pack - Darcy turned 6 years old in April and Duffy was 3 in May. We live in Oldham, Manchester, UK.
Some of you may have met Darcy & Duffy at the Deerhound Show in April - they weren't showing but they were helping out on our trade stall (t shirts) and Darcy was pretty recognisable as the Deerhound with 3 legs.
Darcy was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 16th October 2007. She'd had NO symptoms at all (and believe me, after having lost a greyhound to bone cancer, I am very aware of possible symptoms) but as she walked across our living room that day, her leg broke - and the dignosis and amputation took place that same day. She went through a course of chemo which ended in January and after a few weeks of being very poorly indeed, she lost most of her hair. She's been through various stages as her hair came back and when we were at the show, she was going through her "I look like a Saluki" phase
Then she went through her "I look like some sort of strange Standard Poodle" phase and now she simply looks gorgeous
Yesterday, we celebrated 8 months since her diagnosis and amputation. Every day is a blessing.
I think I'm having a problem attaching pictures so I'll post this and then work on the pictures issue...
