Hello there ,

I am fairly new to this wonderful and wonderfully international deerhound site and wanted to introduce myself and my 4 dh girls briefly . Well , I am Verena , originally from Germany but having lived in " Beautiul B.C." / Canada for close to 15 years now , the last 8 of them with deerhounds , finally ( after a long love affair with the breed before that ) . My oldest dh is Canadian bred , kennel " Dianras " and she , Mahak , is just over 8 now , a lovely and lifely and all over wonderful smallish girl , great huntress and playful and also was an excellent lure courser. My second is Na'lee , she came from Denmark , " Bechmann's " , and is 6.5 years - she also is an excellent lurecourser , crazy about plastic , doesn't hunt though ( despite all the Arkinglas in her pedigree , Miss Noble would not be too happy ....) . Next is Chapeltower Disa , from England of course , and a close cousin to Na'lee ; she is somewhat over 4 and a great , serious huntress - the plastic bunny only interests her on the side and briefly.... Last but not least there is Mawu , kennel Hollyrood , again from Canada and a close cousin to Mahak ; she is not quite 4 and tireless , with an overabundance of joy and passion for hunting - no interest whatsoever in plastic , she will look for coyotes and whatever on a lurefield and be bitterly disappointed when noone shows up there .
Now , after all the talk about hunting , I do not hunt my girls , but we do go on long walks everyday out here in our mountainous wilderness and they just love to chase whenever the opportunity arises - various deer , bear , coyote , rabbit .... Thankfully the underbrush is very dense in our forests , so , so far there have been no " kills " ( other than rodents and birds ) and thus we all can enjoy their chases - I would have a very hard time did they actually catch bigger game (regularly). But I love to see them run , their teamwork , athleticism and absolute joy and passion .
I do not show , perhaps Mawu will be shown by her breeder - but I do /did go to quite a few lurecourse events over the years and am proud that Mahak and Na'lee both are
" Field Champions Excellent ", 2 of only 6 dhs to have ever achieved this title in Canada as far as I am informed .
That's enough , I think , perhaps already too much - I absolutely love the breed , they feel like soulmates to me and I also love the deerhound community -

Hi Veranav and welcome from myself and my hound Ben. You are very lucky to live in such a great environment like B.C. with your hounds. Here in England there is virtually no wilderness left although Scotland still has a fair bit, but thats a 6 hour drive from here. Even if we go somewhere quiet and scenic with dogs there's always somebody there to watch out for, who may object to large dogs running free. I'm lucky in that I have a few acres of land and live in the countryside but the fields are full of livestock so its not possible to let the dogs run free in them.

Hello Rob and Ben ,

I have come , over the years , to truly understand and treasure my opportunities here - going on long offleash hikes with up to 6 dhs , when my friend Heather comes with her 2 , is incredible . We can walk for hours and not meat anyone but wildlife - still , we do watch out where we go and when ( early and usually higher up in the mountains ) . I do have a very small property but then , my girls do get their exercise elsewhere .

I will do so and start with my sweet Mahak - " Dianras Instant Karma " JC,F.Ch.X. - she is my very first deerhound and a fantastic girl - a great huntress and super lurecourser , extra playful and the best sleeper of all . Mahak turned 8 in July and is still going strong - despite some arthritis in her front paws and some suffering in our extra hot summers , her heart doesn't really like the heat ...
More to come,

Verena , who loves to show her deeries ( just as much as about everybody else )

And now to my Na'lee - " Bechmann's Beautiful B.C. , JC,F.CH.X." , 6.5 years old ; she is the tallest here and also the boss - albeit a very sweet and cautious one. Na'lee does not hunt but is crazy about the plastic bunny and has done very well for herself at trials. She is somewhat of a clown , ok , a huge clown - and also , she has a nack for posing beautifully , all by herself she finds the best places - thus , there are tons of beautiful pics of her - here is one ....

And now to " Chapeltower Disa,JC " ( just over 4 years) , a cousin of Na'lee and future reigning queen at my home - she is working hard at that . Disa is a serious and determined dog , though very friendly . She would have loved to be a working dog and waits for wildlife all the time -in the house she takes and occupies whatever she deems she needs and is quite matter of fact about that . Shows and being leashed are NOT for her , she will immediately look grief stricken and assume - what I call - the " Eyeyore position " , head down , drooping eylids , not able to move. The plastic bunny is only of interest when she can run with her 2 older housemates - what a dog ! Love her to pieces and yet am glad , I have only 1 Disa living with me ....

and one more of Disa - 1 year old and " on top of the world " , her rightful position ...- she still is that black , just a few lighter " fringes around the edges " now

Finally and last but not least , her comes my Mawu , aka " Hollyrood Isadora Duncan " , not quite 4 years of age . Always happy and very outgoing , super enthusiastic and charming and tireless runner/huntress - only the plastic bunny is of no interest whatsoever .She has , just like Mahak - whose cousin she is - a good dash of Nelungaloo blood in her . Here pic No1 - with Mahak in the background .

Wow! They are all lovely photos. You certainly live in a picturesque area, of course the hounds set it off beautifully. That last photo of Na'lee is stunning.

Thank you- the dogs all took to the mountains right away ( no surprise here ) , but I initially lost a lot of weight , having come from a rather flat part of Germany . Unfortunately , once my system got used to all the climbing , the weight / fat came back on , almost as fast as it had disappeared....

Well that's it, I am so jealous, what a beautiful part of the world. To walk 6 hours
without seeing another human being is amazing. I have to make do with the local
golf course, where my Deerhound chases the golfers! Luckily they are all used to
him, but anywhere else you wouldn't be able to let them off as it would frighten the
life out of people. Sometimes, he catches you unawares and shoots off, I tend to
shout out "He's friendly, stand still!!" but it would frighten me if I were to meet
a Rottweiller hurtling towards me.
Fantastic pictures, I hope they are framed and hanging on your walls!

I know that I am blessed to be living here - especially originating from tiny , overcrowded Germany where I would not dare to let my girls go , I think , not even 1 at a time . Some of the pics are on the wall , I do have so many , many (beautiful ) deerhound pics - which seems easy to do here as deerhounds are so very stunningly beautiful themselves and do fit in this world of lakes , forests and mountains so very much , as this is similar to where they were " born /created " .
Thanks for all the praise ,

Verena , who is absolutely in love with the pic of the Greyhound/Deerhound longdog somewhere on tis site , standing in the Scottish heather and emanating a strength which is almost unbelievable .
