These are our Deerhounds Menteith Declan (Blue) and Matahari Mola Mola (Brodie). We have had Blue for two years and Brodie for a month. We hope to show them at some point this year but know absolutely nothing about showing. However, we do know an awful lot about replanting the garden, cleaning sand of our backsides at the beach and sitting on the floor because there is no room on the sofa!!!!
Any pointers on showing would be greatly appreciated.
PS Hopefully the picture will be attached!!!!

We are going to try to get to a few shows this year but it will have to coincide with holidays,we do a fair bit of caravaning so we should manage to get to a few, as we are new to all this it will take a bit of investigating to find out what shows and classes we can enter but i suppose this is all part of the learning process.

The picture you posted looks exactely like Murray and Carys having one of their 'tooth fights'

Hi Farnorth and welcome to the site. If you're interested in showing, it would be a good idea to start reading one of the weekly dog papers - either Our Dogs or Dog World. They have adverts for shows, with details of how to obtain schedules, etc. Online alternatives are the two main sites for championship shows - www.fossedata,co.uk and www.higham.co.uk, which cover all the UK, and for Scottish open shows, try www.printmatters.info as a starting point. The Scottish Kennel Club should be able to guide you to a local ringcraft class, or your vet may already know of one. We're a small but welcoming crowd of exhibitors in Scotland, so you'll soon find your feet. Looking forward to meeting you and your hounds.

Trying to find a local ring craft class helps. I was lucky enough to find out that a lady in my village had been showing dogs for over 25 years and I met her through ring craft.
SHe has been an unending source of information and support. Once your at the shows the deerhound people are so generous with advice. It really is one of the nicest breed to get into for showing as people are so kind.

Oh yes and I meant to say that attached to many of the shows are campsites specifically arranged for the show. Often really cheap rates but you may need to invest in a generator. In the summer you can have a lovely time starting at the Hound Show in Stafford then moving to Bournemouth and then to Buith (sp). Bournemouth was lovely last year as there were a herd of deer that could come into the campsite at night and of course the ponies go where ever they like. It's a great atmosphere (we met Spot at Bournemouth). The dog show people have all flags and lights around their awnings. It's wonderful.
