as i mentioned earlier, we are picking up our 4 mth old puppy labor day weekend.
At home for the moment our pack is comprised of;
Norbu ; tibetan mastiff male 8 years old ...a reserved type, not much of a party boy.
Celeste ;tibetan mastiff female 30 mths old......a therapy dog, loves everything,everybody and anybody, very maternal towards smaller animals, loves to run around , tease and play chase, a devoted party girl.
Milou; standard poodle male 30mths old, a retired guide dog, (after graduation became fearful of trucks)has become very close to celeste since his arrival in may, very playful joyous dog.
Klemmie;pug female 8 years old, holds her own is playful but must remain tranquil ; she has MAJOR breathing issues.
my question to all of you is as follows;
my husband has suggested we should get an other deerhound, have a couple instead of a singleton.
I am all for it IF we move to the lovely farm we are hoping to buy,...if not i feel i have a full house.
any comments?
thank you,
elise
my husband and i will be picking up our 1st deerhound on labor day weekend, she will join 2 tibetan mastiffs,a standard poodle(retired service dog)and a small pug.
thrilled to join the deerhound people.

It is true that Deerhounds loves Deerhounds. (And they do look great as a crowd! )
But I think your standard poodle, Milou, will do just fine as a friend to play with for now and then you can can get another "Dearhound" when there's time and space for it!!!
Just a thought"!

Must add...just watch them playing so it wont get too rough. As all puppies, deerhound puppies don't know when to stop and I bet Milou doesn't either. Accidents do happen...

But I bet it wont take long before your deerhound outruns your poodle...

Good luck!

my mother has a poodle and its a great friend of my deerhounds. deerhounds are very friendly if a bit boisterous , care has to be taken they are not too rough with small humans or smaller dogs when they are young but apart from this Ive found them to be my perfect pet.

That's quite a pack you've got. It'd be nice for there to be another deerhound as they seem to fit well, or another sight hound. My Alice is in love with an Ibizan and a Boroi. She sees one at coursing events and the other at shows and there is always a good deal of flirting.

One thing to keep in mind is that your pup is four months old and Deerhounds tend to mature a bit more slowly than some of the other breeds, so keep an eye on it so that it does not get injured or damage the growth plates. Otherwise ENJOY, can't beat them.
