Re:Deerhound lurchers allowed? 3 years, 9 months ago #980

and who is that georgous hound you have on your profile? what a beautiful stance

Re:Deerhound lurchers allowed? 3 years, 9 months ago #981

He is Murphy, Ladygrove Phantom, he was 3 this May. He is a lovely boy. Have you
any Deerhounds, or is it just the Lurcher. She is fab, I love the black around her eyes
almost like she had make up on.
The photograph of my dog was taken on the golf course where we walk them, we also have
a Border Terrier)I'll try and upload some more. He likes the golf course, so much interesting
things to chase, he goes into hunting mode over there. We've just come back from a
lovely long walk and they are both shattered.

Hi Pamelajane

I love your lurcher - it is so weird I thought that we were the only ones to be so lucky to have had a lurcher like that. She is so like Kerry - even the pricked ears - we gave her lots of nicknames one of which was 'bat ears'.
We rescued her from the dog kennels in stirling. I insisted that we fetched her on the Saturday at 12noon - we really should't have had her till the Monday. Just as well as within the day we'd to rush her to the vets as I suspected (correctly) that she had parvovirus.
Tthere she stayed for the next 10 days of her life. We were warned that as she was young (3 months old or so) that if she didn't improve by day 5 then it was ulikely that she would make it. She was no better by day 5 and it took till day 7 until she began to improve. When we got her home she weighed only 4 kgs and I was almost too frightened to hold her.

However she had a full and happy life with us - if not as long as we had hoped for. We had her for just over 6 and a half years. Just under a year ago she was diagnosed with Chronic kidney failure - even our Vet couldn't believe it as her urine readings were so high that she should have been dead. We had 10 more days with her until we called out the Vet to put her to sleep.

We (vet and myself and husband) concluded that in the end the parvovirus may well have attributed/caused to her kidney failure. It was all so sad. If only her previous 'owners' had at least given her the innoculations!
However she fuelled our love of deerhounds.

I assume that your lurcher can prick up the ears but lay them back too? What do you think that she is crossed with?
She is gorgeous.

Hi Vicky,
Thank you for your lovely message, I'm so sorry for little Kerry....I am in East Kilbride near glasgow which isnt really that far from you....Lucy was rescued 18months ago from Bothwell cat and dog home she had been left tied up outside an electrical shop in Hamilton, she was in a really bad way no hair and puncture wounds all over her, but she has been a wonderful dog since she came to me hasnt a mean bone in her body, she can do the thing with her ears, i think she is crossed with bedlington, whippet and deerhound, really dont know dont care I love everything about her, I have good photos of her jumping over heather but they are on a friends photobucket account and he keeps on forgetting to e mail them to me so that i can post them...would be great to meet up and walk and talk somewhere, keep in touch

Hi Pamela

Poor Lucy, she really did have a bad start to her life. I always wonder how people can be so cruel, and that the animals that have been so badly treated will, can and do trust us humans again.

I'd love to meet up with you and lucy. we also have a lurcher - Fingal (Fynn)who is a deerhound x greyhound, and another dog cally a Rotti x Lab (she too was a rescue and Kerry was initially brought into our life as a companion for Cally).

Thanks Brollachan
I think they relly added something to kerry's character, - and the prick ears and wisps at ears!

Still miss Kerry, but I'm sure that Clunie and Fynn will replace her in their own special ways. Both are as bad at pinching food as she was. The only thing is she was a lot smaller at 22- 24 " so we are still having to get used to puting foodstuffs even higher up in the kitchen eg roasts have to sit on the top oven door and not ther worktops to cool down etc... we learned the hard way with Kerry and a half gigot of pork!! However the look on her face was priceless when she wandered into the dinning room with her trophy and typically it was when we had guests on their first visit to us.(strange they never did come back!!)
