There was a photoshoot at Pets at Home today for a pet competition. I dont know what possessed me to take my lot but I did! Murray refused to get up on the small podium for his photo and knocked a stand over! Carys did what she always does when she doesnt want to do anything - flops to the ground! She had to be carried in and lifted onto the podium. Bonnie was the perfect gent and did everything that was asked of him and he has only been with us for 1 week. Everyone was laughing at Murray and carys which made things worse as Murray always plays to an audience. All in all I think the long suffering photographer got about 3 shots in all.

There were cavs, spaniels ect all behaving themselves and my lot were like a gang of yobbo's.

I have to go back next Saturday to be further humiliated by choosing a photo to go forward for the competition.

I left there today in a bath of sweat and laughed all the way home
I do so love my hounds!

LMAO at your lot's antics, Houndy!

Murphy ran about the park today like an absolute loon. At one point some wummin screamed at us to call on our dog as she scooped her Yorkie out of the way of the giant hairy Exocet missile bearing down on them both.

We were almost hysterical with embarassment at Murphy's antics: as soon as we let him off the lead he started rolling about and playfighting/savaging his baby sister to the utter shock and alarm of passers by who only see this massive dog, seemingly out of control, leaping onto a much smaller one with barking and teeth bared.

He's just completely and utterly mental, and has regressed to being a yobbish teenager since we got baby Mara a couple of weeks ago.

We do so love our hounds but boy can they be hard work sometimes. We too were in baths of sweat on the way home.

Murphy is going to have to go back to puppy lessons, and back onto his training harness. Mara has started lessons, of course, is being good as gold.

Good luck Houndy, hope they win something nice!

It must be something in the name Murphy ~ mine is an asbo candidate also! He went to the park tonight with my son and daughter, they are not little kids they are 19 and 21. I gave them strict instructions to keep him on the lead, did they, no. A lady walked in with a rescue greyhound and he took off like an excorcet misile.....just to sniff its bum! The lady was a bit freaked. I knew he had been off lead as he was panting heavily when they got back home. Next time, they can only take the terrier. Thats why I don't go to parks.

Deerhounds certainly have an original way of playing. When Murray and Carys start playing all you can hear is the snapping of jaws and baring of fangs - I call it them having a tooth fight

Thats so funny Trish. I can see it all the way you describe.
Next time you go take a video camera! I can just imagine what they get up to.
I can't take Mac into Pets at Home any more ... I can't get him past the Rabbit enclosure !!!

The two nine month old babies that are laying here all angelic as I write this turn into racing demons as soon as they hit the park. I must admit they do just play with each other and do not bother other dogs. With the exception of chasing a dog to the park gates with their friend Elsie last week!!!They were in their own pack and thought it was great fun, it was very embassing the poor owner she did not know our dogs just wanted to run and play.

LOL - that's a BRILLIANT description. We call Murphy "Edward Scissorjaws" and it sounds precisely the way you describe.

Mara's head fits right into his mouth and he'll slabber and do the whole toothy thing but never bite. She, on the other hand, gives him pelters. She has been known to clamp down hard on his bottom lip and swings on it. It's credit to Murph that he doesn't retaliate and at least tries to play nicely - if a bit too 'big-ly'.

The only time she gets stressed is when he rolls on top of her and pins her somewhere (most often on the couch...)

We will NOT be taking them anywhere as civilised as Pets At Home until we are guaranteed that they will not cause carnage. Perhaps in about 2 years time...

Ha ha. Utter madness, what were you thinking!! I bet the pictures of them messing around will be better than the couple that he got of them behaving.

How totally Deerhound Ours do lots of teeth snapping and growling, it sounds like they are killing each other but generally it is just play. Of course sometimes play gets a little heated and competitive. We have taken some video but I haven't mastered the rendering yet.

Oh and to show how feral our hounds are:P

I had the boys in PAH a few weeks ago with my very good friend, Dotty. She had Jock, I had Dougal. We got separated in the shop, not a prob, then I heard Dot call my name. There she was on the end of the lead with Jock, friendly nose to friendly nose, with a HUGE St. Bernard! This beast must have swallowed a trainer, the slobbers were down to its toes! Its tail was knocking things of shelves, bedlam! I took Dougal over to meet but he was either not impressed or a bit overawed cos has a wee sniffff, at a discreet distance(coward) then walked away! My two are chalk and cheese! They also tooth fight in the park! Gillx
