Just curious...in 1999 I spent 3 months touring the middle east. I wanted to see Sighthounds and Arabian horses - my passions. While in Israel I met up with a gentleman on the street - rather I chased him down, since he was walking with a lovely Irish Wolfhound. I was not able to see any Deerhounds, but did manage to find a dog show in the desert held in a kibbutz. Since at that time dog shows had only been held there for about 5 yrs..it was a little basic, but the interest was huge. A lady at the show heard I was from Canada (Alberta...) and told me they had brought over a judge/poodle breeder from Canada, did I know her? It turned out she was from Toronto...about a 5hr plane ride from me, so no...but impressive anyway. In any one's travels...have they seen a Deerhound in an unexpected place? I did meet some people who had a few Borzoi....and did purchase wonderful Sighthound collectables in the marketplaces there and in Egypt. The Wolfhound was from Denmark - by the way.
I also was there when the king of Jordan passed, his funeral procession gave me shivers..the most gorgeous white Arabian stallion led the way - no halter, no handler...
Yet...a friend of mine wanted to go to Russia for her honeymoon, since she loved Borzoi, and had 2. 3 weeks in Russia and saw no Borzoi..not one.
