TOPIC: sad news (again)

sad news (again) 2 years, 10 months ago #12544

For those of you who remember the advert on this site not long ago about a deerhound, Bonnie, who needed rehoming as her elderly owner was taken very ill and could not look after her and I rehomed her.

Well, I have just returned from the vets and Bonnie has been PTS. I was on here messing about on the 'Limericks' thread when I heard a thud from my bedroom. Went down to find Bonnie had fallen from the bed and was twitching badly on the floor. Dash to vets but he (I think) died as we got there. Vet gave him the injection and now he has crossed the rainbow bridge

Hounds are lost - they keep looking around the house and in the garden for him - so very sad

I'm so very sad to hear the news. At least Bonnie's last days were spent in a loving environment with other Deerhounds.

So sorry for your loss. Having lost two of my gang recently (only 8 weeks apart) I know how hard it is to loose dogs and how hard it is for the dogs left behind.

Bonnie will know she was loved though, something to remember in your sadness.

So sorry to hear your news, I'm sure Bonnie's last days were very happy with you. Lots of ear rubs to the ones left behind.

Know how you and the dogs must feel, we lost one in May.
Our bonnie lassie was very special and cannot be replaced by another, but getting a new one helps.
It also helps if you give your dog a funeral service of some sort (ours was cremated but we buried her ashes); a tribute to a faithful companion and friend!

I am having Bonnie cremated and will scatter his ashes in our favorite walking spot. I did this with my 3 lurchers that I lost recently. So much pain when we lose our beloved dogs. Life is a bitch sometimes

Good of you to scatter her ashes in her favourite walking spot. Whenever you're walking by you can say hello to her.

So sad, there have been times when i,ve felt I just can,t go through the heartbreak of losing a hound again, but each one is special and teaches us something new. Its for that reason we all carry on.

Keep thinking happy stuff! Its horrid when we loose a much loved member of the family, but the time he was with you was good! Gentle comforting hugs sent to you, Gillx

I am so sorry to read this , too - it seems to have been a quick death though , no prolonged suffering and in a safe , loving home . And give it to a deerhound to die in bed ......

Lots of healing thoughts from here ,

Sorry to read this I am dreading the day when my Leah goes, I've already pre-warned Steve that "heart-broken" will be an understatement!!
