I've noticed some dogs have brownish muzzles and some not. Is this food staining? If so how is it removed and does it really matter if a dog has it?

My boys have that too. Gave them a bath recently, washed their faces with mild shampoo on a facecloth! Made little difference.Gx

Layla has it as well, its verry heavy staining with her,
i know there some stuff - like the tear stain stuff you can get for white dogs,
that helps remove it, but have never tried it,

Just found this, dont think i would try it, Layla would probably just want to eat
the stuff lol.

I've been told that the brownish staining is body fluids, ie saliva around the mouth. They also get it around their genital areas. I don't know that anything can be done but then I'm only stating what I've heard and am not an expert. Maybe somebody else onthe site will know of something.

Murray has this too - it's around his muzzle and his bum!

I'd be interested to know the reason for this too. Does it appear on only the older dogs? And is there a solution? I cut it away on my old guy when I have him up on the grooming table. It appears on his jaw and he is a big salivator (if that's a word)! His diet is mostly kibble with a bit of canned on top for interest (oh dear, there I've gone and admitted something that might not go over well with the raw food enthusiasts on the site, and here I've been trying to keep my head ducked on this issue

None of my dogs( deerhounds and others ) ever had those stains , but I know hem well from my times with the terries where some breeder/owners went to great length to get them out of teir dogs ( esp. Westie people!). They might be food related ( I do feed homemade ,raw mostly ) , no clue - some are " tear stains " , most often with the short nosed breeds where everything is somehwat " squished " in their faces ....
