Hi our poor deerhound blue has become a slavering gibbering wreck who is clawing squeeking and biting at the kitchen door he knows it has got something to do with brodie but isnt quite sure what he should do about it. I wish i had a microphone attatched to this so you could hear the dolefull moaning and howling and all because brodie is in season o the joy of being a dog owner

Oh, the poor adolescent boy! Never mind, Ian - only a few more weeks to go...

Oh Gowd! I wonder when Carys will come into season then? Do litter sisters come into season at roughly the same time? I need a bit of warning!

Ian, we know that sound so well. We have had it for six weeks now. First the Foster Girl, Honey, came into season within a week of arriving here, then one of Alan's working Collies came into season and now we have one of the Deerhounds in season. Poor Ruag is turning himself inside out in anticipation, unfortunately for him his luck is not in this time. Thank god we had the lurcher castrated because I think if I had to put up with two of them making this pitiful sound I would have had to move out for the duration.

My sympathies are with you, Ben's bad enough when there's a bitch in season half a mile away let alone in the next room.

Does it go on day and night?

I cannot ever remember mine doing it when we had the Lurchers and the greyhound bitch. She was put in the end kennel when she came into season, but we didn't hear a thing? Perhaps they were gay!

We found that if we kept them in seperate rooms it created more noise and havoc. For Bree's last season (for short periods)Bree was kept in a large crate in the room with us. This seemed to settle Lockie much better just being close to her. At night Bree slept in a soft crate and Lockie beside her. Again this kept all parties happy and we could sleep in relative peace.
They still had their stints in seperate rooms but Lockie would howl and carry on when kept apart.

Hi we put in a glass door between the kitchen and the lobby yesterday so blue can see brodie at night without being able to reach her it seemed to work last night as there was a lot less noise the things we do for our hounds

Yes the key is to let the dogs see one another at all times, as in maintain visual contact, otherwise they panic and carry on with the whining and other assorted antics. Just being able to hear one another simply doesn't cut it.

But installing a glass door farnorth? yeow! Best you don't ever decide to tot up your expenses on those hounds, lest you feel faint! Perhaps that should be sent out as a general caution to this crowd as I suspect we all spend more on the little darlings than we should!

Good luck with the season and getting a decent night's rest. Only 2.5 weeks more to go.
