Ive noticed over the last few weeks Layla's getting more brown on her,
there was a tiny bit on her back when she first came,
but its been more notceable over the last week or so,
her coat isnt as thick as when she first came, she dosent look like a bush
anymore, but do they change colour a lot?

probably see it on this.its starting from the middle of her back
and starting to go down her back legs.

Gosh - Layla looks so much like my Murray!
Both Murray and Carys have a brown strip across their bums and on there faces. I thought it may have been due to the sun but we haven't had much of that here Is it due to the time of year or them growing up? Maybe someone here has the answer

Ben gets brown hair on his back in the summer, and it disappears over the winter. I don't know why either.

I'd assummed that it was a natural thing in deerhounds as my previous lurcher, who was deerhound whippet (we think) used to go browner in the summer and greyer in the winter, as well as going hairier with the seasons. Sorry I guess this doesn't answer the question!

A long time back there was a lot of brown in Deerhounds. With Ben its just on his back and with Layla there's more of. Surely its just as simple as that. Genes from dogs many generations back coming through.

That seems the obvious answer. I guess as a dog matures it's coat colour will change too??

Arrgh I'm being bombarded by daddy longlegs - one has landed on the keyboard. I guess that's telling me to stop!!
Good night all!!!

I find , it takes them forever to " find the colur " they will end up having - and , their coat changes( slightly ) all the time over their lifespans , quite intriguing . The only one who is almost all the time the same in my houshold is Disa , being almost black - but she , too, gets a reddish hint in every so often , seems to be more in spring . And , the coat becoming " less " might just be the change from puppy to adult coat - it will become more again , believe me , volume seems to grow , too , during all of their life .

Bearing in mind that Deerhounds used to be differnt colours not just grey, there is throw backs. Most have a red tinge in their coat somewhere along the line. They start off black, like velvet, then the grey comes, some go lighter in summer and darker in winter, Murphy's always got a red ringe in his coat though. Yours are bot still young, it will be there next year too!
