TOPIC: Puppy Colour

Puppy Colour 2 years, 6 months ago #16241

Hello,

I am getting a deerhound puppy in the first week of December all going well with the puppy. The puppy will be 9 1/2 weeks old.

Currently the puppies are 4 weeks old and they are all black.

The mother is merle blue/grey and the father is the same with some brown tints.

Both parents are pedigree KC registered.

I'm not bothered about the showing aspect however I really love the Merle blue grey coat and hope that the puppies will follow after mum.

My question is; are all DH puppies black at first, and as they get older and loose their puppy coat their adult coat will follow their parents the blue grey finished coat.

Thanks for your reply

Brave

Adult Deerhounds come in any colour you like, as long as it's grey. The standard allows for the old colours (red and fawn), but we don't see them any more; shades of grey is your lot nowadays. Puppy coats are never a guide to the adult coat as far as colour goes, although you can make a fair prediction about texture.

I'm interested in the merle, though - do you have a photograph of the mother that you could post?

They are all black when babies, the grey bits appear, they are all grey, light or dark grey, but sometimes there can be tinges of red appear, shame there isn't other colours as there used to be. I was going to add a baby photo of Murphy, but am on the wrong PC, doh!
Where are you getting your puppy from Trevor?
