We've had fireworks going off left right and centre - dont think
Layla knows what to make of all the noise.

Poor Layla, fireworks cause such grief to so many dogs and cats , luckily they're only one a year (or so). Ben doesn't seem bothered much by them but our terrier is absolutely terrified, when he hears them his tail drops, starts shaking, hides behind the sofa and won't come out for ages. This year we shut him in the living room with us and turned the TV up quite loud. We don't have many neighbours nearby and the nearest fireworks were about 1/4 mile away so the room did muffle the noise very well and he didn't seem to hear any all night. The strategy saved us from having to get him tranquilises from the vet.

So sad for layla we know what it is like our old lurcher would hide behind the couch and shake but if he was outdoors it didnt seem to bother him we are very lucky both our deerhounds arent in the slightest bit bothered by fireworks

my deerhounds arent bothered either but Smokey greyhound is pertrified and hides under the bed shaking. The trouble is that people let firework off nearly every night for the rest of the week

I must admit, there hasn't been as many this year as in previous years. Murphy won't go out for a wee, he will ask to go out, stop at the back door and look out, as soon as he hears a pop pop he is right back in. The little terrier isn't keen and is all snuggled up with my husband.
Asbo dog hasn't been barking lately though, so some good has come of it!

We don't get fireworks out here in the bush but as I've mentioned before we do get gunfire. Xena is petrified. She whines, shakes, salivates and will risk injury to get away from the noise. If I am home I turn the TV up real loud to try and hide the sudden bangs.
Lockie has also shown signs of fear whereas Bree doesn't care.

Having one currently who is extremely afraid of all kinds of those noises ( fireworks , shots - even really , really far away ones , poor soul - and also thunder to a degree ) I find it so very important how I react ,not only to help her , but also prevent the youngster Hermione to learn the fear from her . Thank goodness one of the others is totally indifferent and one only lately ( when aged 6-7 years ) started to react a bit to shots , but not so very much . As long as I keep cool, calm and collected the pup is fine and doesn't care . I sure hope to keep it that way.
