For those with fragile sensibilities the duck did survive

Nice one, Xena. My Lyra used to love duck coursing - there's a flight pond at the top of the farm and she spent hours over the years chasing them up and down and wondering where they went when they dived. She never caught one, though.

Hello Brollachan,

I hope your dogs have shared the spoils.

Great hunters.

Best regards

Very nice teamwork - and video !
My first deerhound caught a duck on my property when she was about 6mths old - I live right on a lake and the ducks come in to feed in winter . Looking out the window I just saw my little dh girly throwing something in the air and catching it over and over again , thought it was a stuffed toy she had taken outside - when I went to retrieve the toy I realised it was a - very hapless - duck , still alive and making it onto the lake , even worse , as she had clearly a broken wing ....

Mine was always chasing the ducks along the canal but eventually gave up when he realised that they would always jump in the water before he could reach them.

He caught a duck in the bushes near a pond when he was about 18months old, walked to the pond with it in his mouth and dropped it in the water. Seems like he thought he's put it where it belonged.

Hi Sam, love the video. Mine love to play with ducks like this, it keeps them amused for ages but they've never caught one.

Great Vid, I've not taken Mac Duck hunting before, but I'm sure he would enjoy it.
Hmmmm, have to think where's a pond now !

Xeen had a wonderful time. She was chasing that duck for at least 10-15 minutes before I got the camera. It's the most we have seen her move in a long time I love the way Bree spotted the duck underwater and followed it. It needs Jaws music
Anyway we did rescue duck and it seemed ok

Great video!! Faye got a chicken with a front paw by flying ninja style through the air last week.

Great to watch them play!!! I think my Eris would like to duck hunt. Squirrels are her favourite.

Great video - so pleased to see Bree participating - wonder if a swimming program is the way to go for the neck rehab? May need more ducks? Best wishes, Annette.

More likely we would need more water

Wow Sam that's fantastic. Mine show absolutely no interest in the ducks on the creek, despite the fact that one of our pack- a jack cross- constantly does it.
Cheers

Hello Hairybeasty,

Very interesting.

The Border Terriers original purpose was to bolt foxes which had gone to ground.
They were also used to kill rodents, but they have been used to hunt otters and badgers too.

My first dog for over 20 years was a West Highland Terrier.

Best regards

Hello Joerg and Yoki
Greetings to Germany from Scotland. Multi talented little chaps hey??
Otters and Badgers are off the quarry list now in the UK but Foxes are still on.
What are Westies like in temperament? Hope I wont get in trouble for discussing non d/hounds...

PS...Border terriers were never bred for Badger work as they are much too hard. Leave that tag for Dacshunds,Teckels,Lucas terriers,Sealyhams etc.

Hello Hairybeasty,

Greetings back to Scotland from Germany.

My West Highland Terrier "Terry" was not for the Dog Show, he was for fun.
Terry was a great ball and frisbee player.
He hunted like ducks in the lake.

(@all - Sorry for the off topic)

Best regards

Unfortunately our Border Terrier X Jack Russell just catches Chickens, cats. He also catches Rabbits which is OK and once took on a Fox but backed off when it bit him.
