Hi Cal, I was informed of your disaster, pleased to know you are all safe as I have known chimney’s turn into “roofs” & caused mega damage.
If anyone else is unfortunate enough to have a fire confined to their chimney I would advise you evacuate the affected room (in an orderly fashion) including the pets (safety precaution) then call the Fire Service via 999, providing them with your exact location (helpful if you live far out in the sticks & far away from the nearest fire station) It’s always good to look out for the engine & wave them down with a light if during the dark hours.
If you feel safe you can always try to extinguish the fire by adding SMALL amounts of water from a bowl or better still “squeeze bottle like washing up liquid” which will turn to steam, rise up the chimney & will help prevent the spread of fire until the service arrive
