That is the lovely Kat with my pretty little Elfin.
The Sunbury International Dog Show is one of the largest All Breeds dog shows in the Southern Hemisphere. Last year there were more that 2100 dogs entered. It is held on Melbourne Cup Day. The Melbourne Cup is Australia's biggest horse race. The day is also a Bank Holiday (Public Holiday), which shows you how much us Aussies love our sport!
It is traditional for the race-goers to get all "frocked up" for the Melbourne Cup, much the same as you would for Royal Ascot, so during the lunch break at the dog show, there is a fun "Fashions On The Field" competition. The champagne is flowing and everyone is in high spirits. It is a great laugh and all the dogs (including Elfin, who has a wicked sense of humour) think it is a big game.
If any of you are ever in Australia for the first Tuesday in November, get along to the Sunbury Show and enjoy the carnival-like atmosphere.
