Hello Joerg
Unfortunately there are not many pure Dingos left in Australia. Most of them have bred with wild dogs, or dogs that live on remote cattle/sheep properties.
The most pure of the Dingos are found on Fraser Island, off the Queensland coast, as there are no domestic dogs there. I have seen them there and they are very beautiful.
Sometimes people have Dingo-cross dogs as pets. You need special permission to own a pure Dingo, but they make very good pets.
Dingos are so few in number now, that they are not seen as a real problem by farmers. We have many wild dogs here that cause a lot of problems with sheep, cattle, goats and even horses, as they hunt in large packs.
A farm nearby lost more than 30 goats in one night to wild dogs about 6 months ago. The wild dogs are large cross-breed dogs.
Dingos are small, not much bigger than a fox, and are quite timid.
I hope this information helps.
Nat
PS. I have a picture of my dogs playing with a Dingo-cross... I will find it for you soon.
