TOPIC: Cars for Dogs and Dog Guards

Cars for Dogs and Dog Guards 4 years, 2 months ago #22

I wonder if anyone has any experience of making their own dog guards for the car. I need to fit out our new van. Previously we've got things made up by other people or Barjo. I would like to get something more adaptable and was thinking about trying to do something in a flexible mesh (a bit softer on the dogs) fixed to a rigid frame. Maybe something like chain link fencing. Any ideas?

Hi
If you think of anything I'd be interested, I need a tailgate guard for my Land Rover I've had a quote and they are very expensive. A DIY one would be great.

Hubby made our guard rail which is made from some wire mesh and set in a rigid metal frame. I can't remember if it was actually from something else or if he made it from scratch. We have a Tarago. We took out the rear seats so that the dogs have lots of room. The guard is bolted to the rear seat belt bolts. Works well for us. When we are at shows and the weather is hot we can keep the back open.

Sounds pretty good, I'm actually in the process of having them made professionally. I did try and make my own though using some cold pressed steel and a pot riveter. I gave up after an afternoon, about £40 and a not very good dog guard. I can't wait to get the guards though, gone a bit over the top with the specification I think..I'll post some pictures of the 'dog mobile' when its all done!
