Just a note to your site...we are new to this site and have used other dog sites in yrs gone by...in fact before I took ill I managed one. This one is fun, informative, not snipy...congratulations. Everyone seems to be on the same page. I haven't seen any comptetive uneasiness...either you are all great friends, or abide by the rule soh so well, and you must have a patient moderator. Well done folks. Don and I have both enjoyed logging on..in fact, when he gets home, it is one of the first things do does now..great to see his interest increasing. He is new to this doggy world. Zippo is first 'real' dog and the shows i took him to last year were his first...quite an introduction to the purebred world. I had watch Westminster on tv first...so he would have a small idea of what to expect. We are hopping that my health will improve so we can go to Scotland for the Nationals there in a yr or 2. Odd though..his brother in law is from Scotland and had never seen a Scottish Deerhound, didn't even know what one was?/I asked if he was sure he was from Scotland. But then, a friend of mine went to Russia for her honeymoon, she had Borzoi..and expected to see lovely speciemns there....nope, not a one. (of course if one looked back in history...there is a reason for this...thankfully many of the best animals of many varieties were given as gifts to dignitaries of foreign countries - (and for safe keeping)
Kindest regards
from Canada - the sun is shining in Alberta today

Well said Cassandra - I totally agree with everything you have said! I belonged to a lurcher site for a few years but cause it got so nasty I don't bother going on anymore. There is a nice 'feel' to this site and I have learnt a lot from all the posts and replies

I havae to agree with you both Cassandra and Houndy. Those are the things I like about the site and if there is a differences in opinion it's done in a friendly manner. And tons of information.

When I was in Scotland for a visit I saw one lurcher and of several Deeerhounds as I went to a breeder. other than those I didn't see any dogs and I was in both the country side and cities. But here you don't see too many deerhounds and people confuse them with other sight hounds. mine have been called everything from Wolfhound to Borzoi. Scotland a Lovely country, I've got to get back again.

It's something that drives my Mum mad that in Scotland Deerhounds are often mistaken for Irish Wolfhounds. There's much more emphasis it seems in Ireland for their 'National' Dog than in Scotland. Indeed I think the loss of Scottish from the title and use of only Deerhound in UK official show and club descriptions is a real shame.

PS It's snowing here!

Re:Congrats Deerhound.com 3 years, 6 months ago #2300

Elise, if I'm right, you are in Northampton?? Well a few junctions down the M1, it is raining, heavy freezing rain, with a bit of thunder and lightning thrown in?? Just walked to the local shop and a car pulled up with thick snow on his bonnett and by his wipers?? Perhaps he had just driven down from Northampton too, I do hope it stops, I have to drive to Didcot in the morning.

Away from the weather, yes, this website is fantastic, I end up with 100's of forum notifications each day, but I dont mind, everyone who writes on here is of interest. Even when there are discussions, it is just that, people get their point over.

Lets hope it continues, well done again Robb, now I have to go and remove about a thousand sticky balls from Murphy, as son took him through the woods today searching for golf balls! He is covered in them.

I hardly have to do any moderation, fortunately everyone here is very sensible and I think open minded. Its a good thing that there are some strong opinions and emotions here. Open debate and freedom of opinion are always going to highlight disagreements. Keeps things interesting, I will only step in if things get personal! The idea of this site is to bring the deerhound owners of the world together.

Thanks everyone

ps what's the collective term for deerhound owners -deerhounders? deeries?

Hi Lurch hope you got to Didcot OK. Amazingly there's still a little bit of snow here.

Re:Congrats Deerhound.com 3 years, 6 months ago #2372

Yes, we had a good few inches of snow after the rain stopped, didn't think it would settle but it did and is still here in parts. Trouble is, it was like concrete on my car the next morning!
No the drive to Didcot was horrendous, M40 being shut because a poor lorry driver died, spreading lard all over the road, it took me 3 hours, then another 2 on the way back as not only was the M40 still shut, M4 was shut London bound! I really hate going to work!
