has anyone else got a dog that lifts one leg up and sits on the sofa or chair like a human? this is quite a talking point in our house as first time visitors think our dog sam is going to do something completely different when his leg goes up. we have two deerhound, brother and sister of 7yrs old in september 2010 and they are as different as anything. the bitch is quiet and deadly in the field, and the dog is vocal and laid back, the bitch is blue silver and the dog is fawn. How different are they ? satz1

My Ben does it regularly. Have had load of comments when I've taken him out to a pub and he's sat on a bench in that manner. People think its hilarious, evidently great Danes and other large breeds do it as well.

Yes, Murphy sits on the sofa too like that, as did our Lurchers previously.

Re:deerhound weirdness 2 years, 1 month ago #23016

hi all our lurchers do that but not our deerhound, infact Finley our saluki/beddy can actually reverse into a space next too you, looks really funny because he starts reversing some way away from the sofa!! funny boy he is!!

Re:deerhound weirdness 2 years, 1 month ago #23017

we went to stay with my sister in derbyshire at weekend and took all 4 of our dogs in local pub and our lurchers keep trying to sit on benches too!!!

Oh yes! Skoll does it all the time, and Bea likes to jump on the sofa and arrange the cushions so she can lie propped up.......

Leah doesn't do it at all bless her, though she will roll her blanket up on her bed like a pillow and put her head on it.....

don't you just love 'em....

hi and welcome Yes I know a few hounds that sit like this. Aren't they adorable

Re:deerhound weirdness 2 years ago #23071

well well well! And here was me thinking it was only Mara (also known as HRH Princess Mara!) who perches her bum so daintily on couches, knees and stairs!

Murphy has never shown the slightest interest in anything except loafing on couches - preferably with his feet in the air (or in your face depending on where you are sitting!)and his tongue hanging out and if a little 'wind' should escape whilst he is 'enjoying' his loafing - well that's our look out - apparently!

THAT is indeed his idea of deerhound heaven.....

hi, my dog sam who is 7 years old started with small stones and then progressed to chewing brick pieces and eventually tried to gnaw on slabs . i was told that it was due to a lack of a certain vitamin, of which i cant recall the name. i was afraid he would crack his teeth, but all seemed ok. the only thing is that he does have very poor teeth and has to have them brushed every day(all in wrestling) and his claws are very flaky. i suggest you check with vet , but get advice over phone if they will oblige , just to be sure. satz1 x

I know the feeling, I have a flatulent terrier that can clear a room, plus 2 sons and a husband! You gotta feel for me, the only female in the house!
