Dont know, but i would stay well away from them,
its a bit strange they want your full details, including address
once they get them - they could do anything with your details.

Why would you stay away??We are in a recession after all,and I am selling horses for a fraction of what they were worth last year, just to keep sales coming in...its a reflection on the times, not necessarily on the quality of the stock for sale...as long as they look fit, healthy and the paperwork is up to the mark, wheres the problem?

LoL well who ever it is selling them, must read this board,
as the advert has now changed,

Reasion i would have kept away is one because of them asking for details they didnt realy need, they could have screened people, then asked for address's when the potental new owners came to see the pups, if they were worried about anything they could always ask
for new owners to bring id, second there is verry little infomation on the pups - how do we know there well breed, what kind of upbringing have the pups had,
have they been wormed, alls we know is there kc reg and have had there jabs,
nothing else is known even about the owners.

We may be in a recession - but it cost's nothing just to put a little relavent info on the add - it makes you think theres something being hidden, even the name of the owner would
have made it a little better, at least people would know there actualy contacting a real person.

I agree with you on this one Jane - I would have thought that because there is a reccession that people wouldnt be just asking for 200 quid! Why wont they give a contact name or number? that is the strange thing as far as I am concerned

Re:D/H pups for 200 quid 2 years ago #23427

They may not want the breeder of the dogs they are breeding from to know what they are doing, there could be any number of reasons for this. That may be why they want to know all about folk wanting to buy, without giving much info on themselves. It is way too cheap for KC reg pups so you won't really know what you are getting. They would do better to come clean and sell them as lurchers at that price.

The fact is there stating they are kc reg,
if they are not pure breed deerhounds, then its deception.

When you payed 80 quid for the "hairybeasty" if theyed of said he was kc reg
then you would have though something was wrong, with out papers you cant realy say there pure breed.

By the way i met a deerhound last year at a game fair,
they had bought her for 80 quid, wonder if they could be from the same person,
i know they went quite a distance to buy her, i just cant remember where they said
they got her from, hopefully they will be there this year.

Responsible breeders will turn down much more dosh for a papered dog if they have doubts about the quality of the home. But as has been pointed out 'times are hard' and breeders will have to cast their net wide to attract enough buyers to give them the chance to be fussy. I'm sure some would rather give a pup away to a good home than wait for the money to be right. Not everyone has the time or space to keep pups until the right home comes along, and if they don't they shouldn't really be breeding.

KC reg. means you can show at KC shows, that's it, end of. Anyone wishing to show at KC shows has to pay for a registered pup, that's why the pedigree pup carries a bigger price tag. Take away the exclusivety and you have as many pedigree pups in rescues as you do mutts. This happens when times are good and folk have loads a money and when times are hard and prices fall.

I'll be honest, I hadn't read the advert for £200 pups I just hope the pups are fit and healthy and go to permanent homes.

As for 'not for profit' pups any properly cared for bitch will eat any profit you could hope to make on selling her pups, not to mention 'puppy mess', chewed furniture, vet checks, sleepless nights and general mayhem.

They are lovely though

Feldandjack - you can't say there is no profit in, say, a litter of ten being sold at ten weeks old for between £800 and £1000 each. I reckon there are some breeders out there making a pretty penny.

I was thinking of responsible breeders, puppy farmers always make a profit. If the average selling price of a pedigree pup is low, does that cheapen the breed? We don't know, and are unlikely to find out, what kind of breeder put this advert up. Maybe the dramatic drop in price will have lots of people getting a Deerhound for the first time and turning the breed in to a popular pet (cheap to buy) It would be interesting to hear others views on this.

I think they are special dogs. They are magnificent in their pure form and when crossed out produce a very classy lurcher. As for price! if you find a dog you like and you don't want to KC show, the papers mean nothing.Everyone will have their own views on how much is too much, the important thing is that the dog is truly wanted by the person buying it.

I was meaning responsible breeders. I would not have thought there are too many puppy farmers producing deerhounds - not exactly the average family pet.

Re:D/H pups for 200 quid 2 years ago #23460

I was looking for Border Terrier pups for my Mum (yes, we ended up with one too - long story) but phoned a number about 8 miles from me, she was selling them for £450, no papers, her exact words to me were "they are pedigree - just no papers as the father is from the Welsh hunt" I have never heard anything so ridiculous.
I ended up driving 100 miles to Canterbury, bought 2 pups for £425, yes, going cheap, but as soon as I walked in to the farm and saw his kennel set up, I was happy.
I think you have to look before you see, perhaps if anyone is local they can go along and have a peak at these puppies. What is KC papers worth anyhow, surely you could say anyone is the Dad or Mum of pups just to get pups registered with KC? whose to know?

I know of a breeder who had a litter of pups stolen while she was out, they took off the roof of the shed and took the lot, they were probably sold far away but would not have been KC registered obviously. If these pups are registered at least you know that they are not stolen like those.

Surely if the claim is pups are KC there must be paperwork to prove it?
Has anyone checked that out?
And pups can be KC Reg and be good for nowt...
How reliable is kc reg as a mark of quality?

Chris, no his name was Graham Venner, lovely man. He had a farm and had Alsations as well as Border Terriers, he had an Alsation youngster with a muscle wasting problem, rather than have it PTS, he made wheels for him, he was a happy dog, but I think that is where my terrier picked up his fear of wheels We were slowly getting there, until son had a baby
He lived in a place called Goberyhill.
