Don't go to the Anglesea show but I do normally go to the The BASC Wales Country Fair @ Bodelwyddan Castle. If anyone is going, they're invited for tea at my house afterwards.

Re: welsh game fair 1 year, 11 months ago #25389

when is that?

Have had a fab day! Loads of people there and everyone fussed over the hounds - they were like celebrities Met a lovely couple from Llanelli who had 2 deerhounds so had a good chat with them. Loads of very nice lurchers and whippets there and Murray and Carys behaved beautifully - I was very proud of them

The only embarrassing moment is when I enetred them into the simulated lure coursing - they were paired up together - the compare gave deerhounds a wonderful resume then this kid waved a few rabbit skins at them and they were off - NOT! Complete lack of interest - they turned around a ran back to me. Everyone was laughing but is was a bit of fun

Glad you had a great day houndy..Game Fairs are a fab day out..gets the dogs used to all sorts of strange going's on..good training.. Rather your expereince of lure coursing than mine with terriers,.. last time out my border caught the lure first.. ..and proceeded to defend it against all comers.. including "Mrs. Ponsonby's" wee dear Jack Russell, that needed vet treatment afterwards..

sorry, but that really made me laugh - not the bit about terrier needing vet treatment - it's the way you tell it.

I was laughing today when it was the terriers turn to race - one caught the lure virtually straight away and then turned on the others so they all ended up scrapping They had to have another go and the same thing happened again. I was weak

I take it from the 'mrs Ponsonbury' remark that you are a james herriot fan too

Yep..was brought up on James Herriot..can still recite big chunks of it ....being in the horse/cattle/dog game it rings true still today...some of the characters and stories he tells could be here, maybe last week.. throwin' it down with rain it's "a plain sort of day"..and on vets arrival for a rectal examination of a horse, the farmer says "what? You've done nowt yet and you(vet) want a bloody wash,in hot bloody water?" could be yesterday!!

Nice one houndy, I can just imagine the Deerhounds turning their noses up at the lure coursing and making you feel so silly, been there done that! I too loved Hairybeasty description of the terrier racing, gave me a good laugh.

HB - you should have called the pug 'Trickie Woo' What was the gardners name that used to mumble curses under his breath when he had to throw rings for trickie woo?
I remember reading the james herriot series and just bursting out laughing at his very funny stories - brilliant!

glad to find some other Herriot fans - not long back from the Dales-always have a wee visit to Askrigg and the pub. Hence the avatar crackadog! In fact it was Johns choice of family viewing last night for fathers Day! Glad you had a great time the show Houndy. When we went to the Fun Day it was our terrier who chased the lure in the prcatice lure set up. Most of the DHs were reluctant movers - mind you that changed on the big course with the DHs who had been trained to it before.

HB - did you see my post asking you what the name of the gardner that used to have to throw rings for trickie woo?
