I was just wondering what insurance companies people here use to insure their D/H's?

DownJess is with E & L, the youngsters are with More Than. No claims for anyone so far; touch wood.

I used to use Scottish Pet Insurers, who were absolutely wonderful until they changed underwriters and their prices shot up beyond the point of affordability.

We use Pet Plan for both dogs and the cat. It may seem expensive, but it only takes one problem and the bills mount up. Our Fergal needed major surgery at 4 months which, with after care, came to over £6000. The insurance coverd almost all the costs.

I use Petplan, it is expensive but they guarantee that they will not increase the premiums when the dog gets old. A friend on mine also used it for his Wolfhound, it developed heart problems when it was about 9 and they paid out a small fortune for treatment without a quibble.

Petplan also provide a 1 £M third party cover.

We were with E+L, but changed to Tesco when we got stung with a maximum payout clause. When the Tesco insurance came up for renewal last year I rang up and said it was too expensive. They took a huge amount off and we renewed, so that was worth doing.
I can't say they are very good though, they took months to pay out our last simple claim, for seemingly no reason at all.

Do most of you insure all your dogs (those who many - or breeders) or just the ones possibly at 'risk'? I know peple here(Alberta, canada0 who will drive 6 - 8 hrs to the Vet. School/hospital in saskatoon for care should anything serious happen. There are vets not familar with the special needs of sighthounds. At least the dog insurance isn't as costly as the equine insurance was.

I am using Virgin Pet Insurance for Murphy the DH, it costs me about £19 a month, it was £16 when he was a puppy, so it has gone up a £ a year, I decided to do an internet search the other day to save some money, some wouldn't touch him now he is 3 and others were over £30, so I'll stick with Virgin. They paid out when Murphy had an accident when he was 18 months old, straight away. I haven't got the terrier insured, I am touching wood as I say this, but they are less accident prone that DH's! I wish I hadn't written that! Sods law springs to mind

I am with Tesco's pet insurance and have 3 dogs insured with them including Murray deerhound. I pay 32 pounds a month which is for the 'silver' level - not bad as when I was with more than it was 15 quid for 1 lurcher! Cannot insure Smokey greyhound as she is over 8 so she is a 'fingers crossed' dog

We use NFU for our clan. Works out about £60 a month for 4 dogs and 2 cats. Never had any bother with them and we've had some significant claims .
