My daughter is trying to "puppy proof" the house and remove anything that would appear ..well chewable to a pup! Any advice on what deerhounds in particular seem to like to chew that we should remove for the time being?Don't want the wife or I might find myself and the dog in the camper van for the night!

From my experience:
Shoes, handbags, TV/Video Controls, wooden tables/chairs/furniture especially antique wood, plaster on walls, items of clothing, CD's, window sills, plastic items.
Give him/her plenty of doggy things to chew and keep your fingers crossed as many of the items I've listed above can't be moved easily.
Oh and don't give them old shoes to chew as they'll just chew the best ones as well.

Mobile phones, leather leads (anything made of leather, really), books. All have fallen victim to Deerhound puppies in my house. But only once!

As above plus doors and door frames, books, plastic bottles and wallets most improtant one though is any electrical cables as all my dogs seem to have a special ability to find these but luckily never chew them. Oh yeah and the hosepipe but you wont find out about that until you turn the tap on next time

Oh yes and your arms, mine used to love that and I lived to regret it. Once he reached a certain age it started to hurt and it was a difficult job stopping him then. Took a water pistol!
You can get a spray from pet shops that you spray on things like furniture. It has a disgusting taste and stops them chewing those items you treat with it.

Freya loves wood - garden or home variety, including rather lovely table legs when younger!! To be honest we used an anti chew spray and she has stopped - I think!!!! We take it with us to anywhere new and spay - just in case. Murph the terrier has just last week demolished his second car seatbelt, despite numerous car journeys since number one offence. Off topic a bit, poor chap has just had stones removed from his bladder(yesterday) so as as we knew this was in the offing we couldn't be too cross.
due to blood in wee the day before we left we went to own vet - antibiotics. Problem continued so we visited a French vet - amazing!-general examination; prostate check; straight to ultrasound room which showed up the stones. Antibiotics; antispasmodic pills; Struvite diet for one month and reassurance that if he struggled to pee they would operate immediately. All this was done by the vet himself and took approx 40 mins -Cost £80. Had op here one day after return home.

Might be easier to move the pup in the camper van because you know something is going to get chewed, you just know it! the joys of having a puppy in the house.
Murphy only had the hallway downstairs when we were out, still has, being plain painted plaster walls, wooden flooring, I seriously thought "what can he get?" well, oh sweet little quiet one, remodelled the sloping bit where the stairs go up, chewed all the plaster off, the carpet that went up the stairs (went being the operative word) he shredded it to pieces. ~Chewed the architrave, and ate the wire cable off the hoover, my poor Henry hoover has got shorter and shorter
So, long and short of it, he will chew and with that, I wish you all the best!!!!!

Over the years we have had all the above plus 2 kitchen floors, a couple of bicycles, garden fence, drain pipe, more plants than we can remember (including the pots) and probably much much more. Wouldnt change any of them tho, they grow up eventually (usually around 12 years old). So Good Luck!!!!

you sure have! good luck! though I will say one thing, Murphy grew up at 18 months old, when we introduced a Border Terrier puppy into the house, he seemd to just stop demolishing everything........though little Paddy is a dab hand at chewing dog beds, he is 4 just and has only just stopped, though he will take any shoes or slippers up the garden, not to chew, just to really hack me off looking for them! Nice if you have the room to have just one room where you leave them when you aren't about, ie a kennel

Ben stopped chewing things at around 18-24 months although he's had a couple of shoes since.

I have the problem that I have a 12 month old baby as well, so there's always toys scattered from one end of the house to the other - far too good to pass up for a 4 month old puppy!! I try and keep him occupied with other toys but he can't tell the difference! LOL

Be careful also about plastic bags and fabric - I know of two hounds who came to grief eating those...
We have a pretty well puppy proof room, but Dirk still managed to damage it by eating the walls - eventually had to put a mesh crate wall up to stop it! Good luck!
