If Fern is a " woolie " no striping/grooming will change that - she will need to be clipped every so often . Otherwise handstripping (no knives/blades anything sharp/cutting involved !!! ) can improve a dogs coat to a degree - did this only with my terriers , for whom this is the normal way of grooming . Never stripped anything else but the ears of a deerhound , too much work and , for my girls , luckily not necessary - let alone , that deerhounds are not supposed to be stripped . Also , spaying/neutering can affect the texture of the coat , make ist softer , more profuse
Perhaps you can check with her breeder what best to do?

Invest in a good pair of clippers and save yourself a fortune on grooming bills, never had a wooly but everyone says to clip

Last thing you want to do is put clippers on a deerhound wooley or not
Buy a furminator and drag that through often, your welcome to PM me if I can help at all
as I do not come here often thats the best way

BTW did you know Miss Noble agreed that wooleys often had the best construction and movement

They do clip them over here , only ever saw 2 true woollies and for them clippers were a godsend , also for their owners - sheer wool and tons of it on those dogs - very well build but looking more like gigantic Bedlington terriers.

Welcome back buckiebilly! Hope you had a nice trip. Sorry, no advice on grooming a wool-coated deerhound as I've never actually seen one. I do own a Mars Coat-King though, which is a grooming tool along the lines of a furminator. Worth the investment.

I used a furminator on Marti my woolley coated deerhound and it was great. BTW were you advertising 2 borzois for sale not so long ago?
