We're out tonight,at the Tyne Wear & Tees Hound club, hound of the year match night. They have 2 open shows a year, and all BOB and RBOB winners are invited to attend this evening's event. They have a fantastic buffet, worth going for that alone! All dogs are given a number, then 2 are drawn to be judged against eachother, the winner going through to the next heat,it's a really good night. However,my 2 have had to have a bath this morning in preparation, they were minging!I was dreading it.Megan will get into the bath and stand there while the deed is done, then won't 'speak' to us for the rest of the day, sulking!Jess, who's much heftier, has to be hoisted in,and restrained throughout, then makes sure we're as wet as she when it's all over!I'd kill for an outdoor shower like Taryn has for hers, life would be so much simpler!Hopefully, that's the last one for a couple of months,my back is killing me.

Wow..you are brave I have never bathed my girls! Playing in the sea seems to freshen them up. (I hope...I feel obliged to sniff them now!) Daisy May used to have a shower after her hydrotherapy & she liked that. Would not be able to keep her in bath I don't think and as for Elsie Grey, she is such a heffalump...I would never be able to pick her up, let alone keep her in the bath

Murphy gets bathed in the garden. When it is boiling hot, I just hose and soap him (freezing cold water) but when it gets nippier, I run the hose through the kitchen window onto the taps, so he has a warm one. Won't bath him in the bath anymore, too worried he'll slip and break a leg or something. Tend not to bath him in the winter, last bath he had was.....March last year, for Crufts!!!
Did email the manager of our local football team as a joke, asking him next time they play at home (across the road from me) can I send Murphy over when they have showers, send him in with a bottle of dog shampoo and could they do the deed after all, he is a bit of an icon in our village!!! The reply was not printable!

Have good night tonight Lynn

We used to wash the girls in the bath, and though reluctant it was reasonably easy. Lockie on the other hand will not go in the bath and it is too difficult wrestling with a 50kg lanky dog so now they are done on the deck with a hose running from the laundry.

Best of luck at the show

How I hate bathing Deerhounds. For a start I can't do it by myself, I can't lift them
into the bath. Once in the bath I tie the lead to the bath handles. Ruag is a real
contortionist, his front end is in the bath but somehow he manages to get his rear end
twisted around so that his hind legs are somewhere half way up the bathroom wall.

The girls aren't too bad once they are in but I hate doing them. Reaching over to wash
the faraway side is back breaking and my back is not good in the first place.

Unless the hounds have been in something totally unsavoury up in the farm yard I only
bath them once a year a couple of weeks before Crufts.

Ben has only had a couple of baths, which he hates. I don't bath him much these days, he lies down a lot in rivers, streams, lakes whenever he can and that seems to keep him fairly clean.

Once before showing him at the Breed Show I took him to a dog grooming parlor. We lifted him into the sink and they secured him with a harness which was a good job as he tried his best at getting onto a tiny window ledge under a time window that was a couple of feet above the sink. There were hoots of laughter from the people working there grooming dogs, at the sight of such a large dog, being such a whoosey and trying to get through such a tiny window to escape his fate.

I was hoping no-one would ask!We were chucked out first round, beaten by a Borzoi.
I won a bottle of wine in the raffle though, cept it was off when we opened it! But the buffet was lovely, and I won a tenner on the Lotto!

But you were there, flying the flag for Deerhounds - that's what counts. I've heard about TWT's legendary buffets - was it up to spec, then?

Really really good! The choice of sweets even were to die for!I was exceptionally good and thought about my weight(for 10 secs) and went for the carrot cake.Well it has got vegetables in it hasn't it?So I counted it as one of my 5 a day, with loads of fresh cream on top!

Not sure that bathing Deerhounds is a good idea even if they do get a bit riffy at tmes. If they have a clean bed and get a bit of a brush now and then ,none of ours seem any the worse for it,thinking of natural oils and the self cleaning properties of hair. Max of one bath a year seems to do me ok!

clippers are kept let alone how to use them;) Alan, I am very hurt that you don't
notice when the dogs have been brushed and for that you owe me coffee in bed for the

Shall I hold the coats?

Re:Bathtime 3 years, 4 months ago #4468

Now I'm thinking I'm washing them too often. We wash them depending on the shows. Not before every show but probably every 5-6 weeks. They don't get particularly dirty but they just get that grotty feeling and their coat seems to lose it's gleam. It is very dusty here.
