Sorry put this in wrong section before
I wondered if any of your D/H's did anything special, clever or unique. Mack doesn't do anything other than look gorgeous and cuddle but Daisy is quite clever. She can open any door in the house including the heavy outside doors. She can also take a bowl off the side without spilling any of the content including cold soup waiting to go in the microwave - not a drop spilt!! She has done this from about 5 and half months.

Ben doesn't do much but he rescues Poggy the Terrier if he falls into water and can't get out. He's done it on at least 3 occasions and once propably saved him when he fell into a river in full flood.
The terrier was struggling to get out of the river which was in flood after days of rain. The bank was too steep for the terrier to climb up and Ben reached over the bank, grabbed the terrier's collar with his teeth and lifted him out of the water. He's also lifted him out of the canal on a couple of occasions although on these his life was not in danger.

Brice also can carry bowls very carefully without spilling a drop - he will carry the metal water bowl (full) onto the rug in front of the fire if he fancies a long drink in comfortB) .
He also can reach the top of the wall cupboards in the kitchen - I didn't believe it till I watched him from outside - front paws on work surface, big stretch followed by a spring up from the rear and another 'safe' spot in my house has been lost:S .
He does have a number of other clever things - like opening the patio door and dragging out the sofa that is in the conservatory into the sun. That was done in tandem with my young Brittany pushing from the rear and Brice dragging - only one small rip on the sofa too.
I never underestimate how crafty he is:laugh: .

Elsie Grey is very good at helping herself to cups, bowls etc from the sink and taking them to her bed to wash them up for me. She has managed not to break anything & leaves them in a neat pile! It goes without saying that nothing is safe on the kitchen counters! Nothing else too spectacular that I have witnessed so far.
Love the idea of Brice moving sofa into the sunny spot in the garden....just to funny
That's when you need a video camera handy.

Murray doesn't do anything that is earthshatteringly clever. Like others, he can carry a bowl in his mouth but does sometimes spill the contents but then he is only a baby

Ruag sings along to Row, row, row the boat gently down the stream and Joe, the white
lurcher can open every door in the house. Up until we put a gate on the stairs, Joe
would escape the kitchen and then let himself into every bedroom and test the beds and
they all have a sixth sense of when the phone is going to ring because they start howling
just before. It is so impressive my eldest daughter has it for her mobiles ring tone and
several people have asked for it for their phones.

Forgot to mention that Ben sings along to Carol when she plays her flute. he makes a grand noise but I don't think he'd do to well on the X-Factor.

Oh I don't know Robb, Judging by some of the hopefuls on the X Factor, I think Ben could easily get through to the live finals. He certainly couldn't be any worse than some of the ones that get through.

Yes, think that I have to agree there Sally and Ben does think that he's very good as well. He'd get full marks for having the right attitude.

Murphy also saved Paddy (terrier) from the swamp once, they both ran very fast to the edge, only Murph stopped, Paddy didnt and splash, he went straight in, Murphy pulled him out by hus scruff!
He also opens doors, I'm just waiting for him now to open the back door and let himself in, shame he hasn't leanrnt to shut it behind him, we just get comfy on the sofa when in he comes and a howling wind follows!
He gets things up very high, but nothing out of the ordinary. He'll sit and give paw for a bonio, all I have to say is "What do you do?" and gives a kiss on demand too.
We too have put gates up, he got in the kitchen once, he was only about 12 months, but he opened a very stiff door and promptly ate a new pair of sandals I had just bought, oh and he also ate the Turkey I bought once at Easter, only my son came in and saw it and picked it up and put the chewed bird back on the plate. Daughter arrived home with our youngest and started picking at it and eating it, she thought we had not dished her a dinner up!

I really feel that the large sighthounds have an extra special sense...I had a male borzoi who really had a gift for reaching people..esp. the elderly, and Zippo has the same gift. We talked earlier on another subject regarding therapy dogs..how some really have a knack for it. Zippo has the gift...I have another Drs appt this week and he was the one who pointed out in no uncertain terms...this past summer that he knew..absolutely..that mommy was sick. Well...he's right again. I expect I'll be having another sugery within the month..and he'll take good care of me. He is a completely different animal playing with his daddy. He tiptoes with me, is careful and caring..with daddy..it's ruff and tumble time..heck if it hurts a little.
He even takes me up for a rest in the afternoon and babysits me. I hope once this is behind me, I'll have the time and energy to share him with the folks at the Glenrose hospital.
He is a very special boy and I thank God daily for having him. His breeder, Lynn Bruce knows how special he is, and it's not just 'cause he is my baby...it is an unusual gift. I've seen other dogs, not mine...handle themselves in such a superior manner. Maybe this is why I sometimes wonder why anyone would want to alter anything about these incrediblely special dogs. Scottish Deerhounds have a unique and special personality..who are We to think any of us have the will or right to alter it. We are the stewards...that's all.
Cassandra - looking forward to long and happy life with our very special boy "Hollyrood Houndstounge" - Zippo

I can't think of anything really special that they do. Bree will sing a long with the cat when she "sings for her supper". Lockie is a very bright boy and I think he could do anything he wanted to.
Great stories about the rescuers.

My Penticton of some 7 months now ha learned himself to hide things from me. Today I found the plug for the bath tub in my bed, and once he had laid a lot of my tools in a nice and accurate group in te floor of the living room. Once i found te remote control for the TV in his food bowl.
He seems to have a good sense for tracing things with human scent, actually he very recently impressed some mantrailing folks, who otherwise believe hounds to be just decorative. Maybe I should train this ability.

My last boy Finley should have had a childs book written about him!The adventures of what Finley did next! He ate 4 saugages from the grill while it was on. He took 4 chicken pieces out of the slow cooker, and left the lid in place the only evidence was the sauce dribbled over the edge. He took the turkey crown from the oven and ate most of it and the foil on one xmas night, luckliy we had had our dinner first, he did it again at Easter so I then knew I had not left the oven door open. While I was on holiday, my son was looking after him he took the washing up to his bed without breaking anything! my son was pleased saved him doing it. The sugar bowl went missing in the bed again not a grain spilt. The bread bin had to be moved or this would be opened and eaten. We had to Finley proof the room before we went out, if I took him to a show and stayed overnight I had to move or hide anything that Finn might like. His kennel was a sight to behold, he gathered bones, pebbles? bass broom, flower pots, plastic watering can, keen gardener you can tell.He was a great people dog. When at discover dogs all the children would be in the pen with him he loved every minute of it. Bless him great lad.
