You'll all probably get sick of my questions lol.

Right hear go's - how did you pick the breeder you got your pup from?.

ive looked at most if not all breeders sites on the internet,
spoken to a few people last year at crufts, spoke to the bloke at the deerhound stand
in discover dogs and still i find it hard, except for a couple of pedagree dogs (that didnt have papers) and mostly came to me by chance, ive never had to look at different breeders,
mostly had mutts, i have a general idea of what i want, not realy bothered about a show dog, been there with friends Borzoi,(got dragged in the ring, as she had two in the class) and i know showing isnt realy me
but would like to do lure racing, i do like the working deerhounds, and i am not realy keen on heavy set dogs - which ive seen a few around,
there was one deerhound i did fall in love with at crufts last year, and did get a chance to spend a little time with her and her owner - and the lady that was helping out,
but never got a chance to find out who they was - first time at crufts and was caught up in the moment lol,i know most breeders only have pups once in a blue moon, and you have to go on a list, which wouldnt worry me, but it does all get confusing, i dont want to rush in to anything and your experances would be helpfull.

This was the girl at crufts, hopefully she will be there again this year.

We contacted Sue Reynolds who is the Deerhound Clubs Puppy co-ordinator. Sue will
let you have a list of breeders who have puppies at the moment it is then up to you
to contact the breeder. Explain to the breeder what you are looking for, ie. dog/bitch
show/pet etc.

You will be asked lots of questions by the breeder so the breeder can make an initial
assessment as to wether you are a suitable owner for one of their puppies.

Some breeders advertise on a site called epupz. I didn't find the breeders of mine that way but they both advertised their litters on that site. As Sally says, Sue Reynolds is the best bet. Good luck!

I did not choose my breeder, I choose the dogs she had bred. I did not know who she was at the time, I was new in the breed. I just liked the way her girls moved and looked. I then waited four years for her to breed one of the girls. I then got my girlie.

Hi Chook, firstly, if they have no papers then they are not pedigrees, but they may alledgedly be purebred but that is quiet a different thing. I'm disappointed that to hear that the information you recieved was not presented in a more user friendly way, as that would not be what club members would like to achieve.

Hi again Chook, just meant to say we've got 4 DH'S at Crufts and if you are going and want a chat, look us up or contact us via Sals e.mail

Finding a good breeder is just as important as the breeder finding a good home. When I was looking for a pup around 7 years ago, I contacted our DH club but never heard anything from them so I then contacted breeders advertised in the Club magazine. I made many phone calls and had to use my instincts as well as them using theirs. I was so fortunate to come into contact with Dave and Pam of Jacobite. Not only are they lovely and helpful people but they produce some of the nicest and best quality dogs. Bree (Ch Jacobite Brianag) was my first Show Deerhound and we have had much success with her. I have been so fortunate finding the 2 breeders that I have got puppies from.
It really is a matter of doing your research and being in the right place at the right time.

Hi Alan, yep sorry they was purebreed,

I will hopefully be at crufts, coming down with a friend,
and will probably do like last year - leave her at the borzois ring,
and pop back every now and then just to make sure shes still alive,
a chat and a chance to meet your lot would be great, hopefully i will be able to find you there.

I wasn't actually looking for a Deerhound, I wanted a Lurcher, our original boy was Deerhound/Greyhound X and was a replica DH only in fawn. I looked everywhere, visited various litters of 'so called' Lurchers and almost gave up hope, so we looked into the Deerhound, visited a litter who were ready in 3 weeks, but thats another story!
My husband went on the computer and saw Kilbourne Deerhounds and I phoned Glenis and had a chat. She told me that Sue Phillips (Ladygrove) bitch Ghost was due in 4 weeks and gave me her phone number. I called her and the rest is history.......
I didn't want to show, I just wanted an all round housedog and family pet, which he is, but did get into the showing, I always say Murphy isn't a show dog, we just go to shows to meet othr DH people and for him to mix with his own kind. I prfer coursing, though Murphy prefers the real mccoy!!! chasing plastic bags is beneath him now after his bunnies!
