Nice pictures of you dogs. I wonder how long that toy stayed in 1 piece.

Nice pics. I'd bet that those were all on the same day. Or if the toy was here it'd would have lasted not much longer than a day, Tess tends to wear/chew things up pretty quickly.

Re:New Toy 3 years, 10 months ago #570

Heh heh Toy did not last long which I knew would happen but they do love fluffy squeaky toys so every now and then I get them a cheapy. Bree is currently lying at my feet finishing the deed. It lost it's legs and arms by yesterday afternoon and half it's body by evening. The other half was destuffed today. I removed the squeakies last night.
OK Bree has moved and Xena has taken over.

I get Ben a rubber ball from the pet shops quite often. They're 3-4 Inches in diameter so its too big to swallow and its made of solid rubber. They're very, very bouncy and he likes me to make it bounce very high and he jumps up and tries to catch it. There's not many toys that last very long with a Deerhound, bless em. The ball lasts longer than most and end up still functional but with a rough chewed surface rather than the nice smooth surface it comes with.

At least the rough surface would make for some interesting bouncing. Lockie does love tennis balls but I never throw them for him to catch incase he chokes. He loves to drop them and make them bounce and he flicks them round with his paws. It's like watching a giant kitten play

Ben drops the ball and tries to make it bounce and catch it again. He also recognises the word bouncy and will search for his ball when ever the word is uttered.

Glad it's not just our dogs that love soft squeeky toys! Clunie and her partner in crime (Fynn)just adore my childs cuddlies. So much so that there's lots that have 'nibbles' out of them. Luckily Jamie hasn't seen most of these ones, as I have to hide them!
Loved the pictures of Bree and Xena playing with the toys.

When we first got Fynn we bought him a moose toy which lasted for at least 3 months (more or less intact) until Clunie arrived. We got Clunie a duck toy, but i think it was lucky to last 2 weeks!

Since then all dog toys have a very short life - if either soft and/or sqeeky.

Aren't you lot lucky, mine usually nicks my slippers! The Deerhound has grown out of it now, after several pairs of shoes and slippers (always mine) The terrier has taken over. All shoes (that are not put away) have the heels chewed off!
I can handle chewing toys any day.....

I have to admit that both Clunie and Fynn love shoes too. So much so that my husband now has no shoes that are fit for his work. Even the new pair that he bought at the weekend weren't safe and Clunie (deerhound) started on the tongue. I guess that is the disadvantage of having 2 pups! (but I really wouldn't change it for anything - apart from having shoes, tidy house, no holes in the garden - which are now filling up with rain water etc).

Xena and Lockie love shoes and they have to be put away. One evening not so long ago I accidently left my work shoes out. Needless to say I found the dogs in the bedroom with one sho each. They went into the bin. Luckily they didn't damage my orthotics too much just a few teeth holes.

I'm fortunate, none of my girls have ever touched my shoes. I thought I'd found a tough toy that they could not rip up--it was made of balistic nylon. After two days the stuffing was coming out--the binding tape on the edges was not the nylon but plain cotton. It has, however, lasted the longest of all. They've even taken small logs from the firewood and cheewed those to bits, simply amazing what they'll get up to!

I must admit that I am beginning to wonder if anything is sacred from deerhound teeth. Today deerhound and lurcher have tried the actual cushion seat of one of our armchairs - foam all over the sitting room! Just as well we got the seats from my mother.

I know what you mean. When Tess was a pup she chewed on the arm rests in the van and ruined two of the seat belts. Some of this occured while I was driving, but she was in the back where I could not see her. She also added two books, one new that had not been read, and a pillow to her talley. Fortunately she's gotten over those knids of things. Well, at least I hope so.

Ben chewed absolutely everything when he was younger, shoes, kitchen table, coffee table, plaster walls, sky remote control, cushions. We reckon he's chewed several hundred pounds worth of shoes. Luckily he's grown out of it and is happy with logs and bones now although he will still occasionally chew a pair of shoes when the mood takes him. He was the puppy from hell but now he's grown into a soft, gentle, sensible dog.

At what age did they stop chewing everything? I suspect just now that Clunie's back teeth are bothering her as she will take my hand right to the back of her mouth and chew fingers (Gently). Fynn (lurcher) at a year old still loves to chew and I believe that they egg each other on...I must admit that Fynn did manage to get the top diagram bit off the car gearstick. However our rotti cross when she was a pup managed to chew the cover off the handbreak - typically in my Dad's car ( he never did find out!!)
Dogs......
Cheers

This is what we came home to a couple of years ago. Xena got the middle cushion seat from the couch and "enjoyed" herself.

And here is Lockie helping to collect starting wood for the fire. He loves collecting wood.

Last Edit: 3 years, 10 months ago by Brollachan. Reason: forgot to add pic

Alice does not chew up anything which is great. Tess still chew some things still, but stopped any heavy duty/destructive chewing around two. The worst Tess did as a pup, was to chew the siding on the house. That last picture could be Tess. She carries off and chews firewood, both that which has been split and newly fallen branches. Fortunately, there's not been any really big fluffy things torn apart. So there is hope. I think that having a good number of bones around helps. Aeriss, my big beautiful lurcher, was like Tess when she was a pup but quickly grew out of the chewing stage. She kept me busy throwing things so she could bring them back along with the shaking and mock kill.
